It has a therapeutic effect and has almost no contraindications.
Useful properties of sea buckthorn
Sea buckthorn is a unique plant that is known for its medicinal properties.
This plant has been used for a long time to treat various diseases. Medicines based on sea buckthorn can be used both externally and internally. Sea buckthorn juice and oil based on this plant were given to people during the recovery period after serious illnesses. Juice and infusion from sea buckthorn leaves were used to wash purulent wounds; the oil was used to treat burns, pathologies of the digestive tract, gynecological diseases, nasopharyngeal diseases and joint pain . With this product you can cure sinusitis, as well as restore beauty to brittle hair and nails. The main beneficial properties can be listed as follows:
- Eliminates inflammation.
- Reduces pain.
- Heals wounds of various origins and ulcers.
- Has a pronounced antibacterial effect.
Sea buckthorn berries can contain up to 10% oil. The amount of oily substance varies depending on the type of tree, the place where it is planted and the time of picking the berries. This oil is bright orange in color, due to its high content of carotenoids. The product has a very rich chemical composition. It contains tocopherols, organic acids, phytosterols, amino acids and many different vitamins.
Sea buckthorn oil is used not only in folk medicine. Doctors often recommend this unique drug for the treatment of various pathologies.
How to make butter at home
High-quality, real sea buckthorn oil is not cheap in the pharmacy, so you can prepare the product yourself. To do this, sea buckthorn is collected, washed, dried (layed out in one layer on a cloth).
After this, use a press/juicer to squeeze the juice into a jar and leave it in a dark place for 15 days. Periodically you need to monitor the appearance of a layer of oil on the surface of the juice. To collect the oil, it is recommended to use a syringe for more accurate collection without the juice. Storage of the product is allowed in the refrigerator.
Another method is more economical, but the oil will contain fewer nutrients. The berries are squeezed out in a juicer, the juice is collected and ready for use.
To treat the throat, you can also use the remains of sea buckthorn (without juice). They are crushed, mixed with olive oil (1:1.5), and infused for 20 days in a dark place. The medicine becomes orange in color and is ready for use.
If there is no effect from using sea buckthorn oil after 2 days, you should consult a doctor to determine further treatment tactics.
Do not forget that sea buckthorn oil as an independent method cannot lead to complete recovery, especially if the cause of the disease is infectious pathogens (streptococcus, staphylococcus).
Thanks to a combination of treatment techniques, it is possible to achieve maximum therapeutic results. To do this, it is recommended to use pharmaceutical rinsing solutions (Furacilin, Chlorophyllipt, Givalex), which have not only an antimicrobial effect, but also an anti-inflammatory, decongestant, and analgesic effect.
If necessary, the doctor prescribes antibiotic therapy taking into account the sensitivity of pathogenic microorganisms, the severity of the disease, and the presence of concomitant pathologies. The dosage and duration of taking antibacterial agents is determined solely by the doctor.

- To treat the surface of the tonsils and the mucous membrane of the oropharynx with sea buckthorn oil, it is enough to moisten a cotton swab in the medicinal product and begin treating the affected areas.
- Gargles in most cases are prescribed for pain in the throat caused by tonsillitis, pharyngitis, and stomatitis. To prepare, you need to dissolve 30 ml of oil in a glass of water at a temperature no higher than 40 degrees. The procedure is repeated up to 5 times a day. To enhance the therapeutic effect, it is recommended to add calendula. Thanks to the combination of medicinal plants, it is possible to provide a more powerful anti-inflammatory and antiseptic effect. Turundas for nasal cavities can be moistened in this solution - a mixture of 1 tablespoon of calendula juice, 2 tablespoons of sea buckthorn oil, 15 grams of propolis, 5 g of honey. To dissolve and thoroughly mix the ingredients, heat the resulting mass in a water bath. The undiluted form is used for instillation of 2 drops.

In addition, to enhance the anti-inflammatory effect, it is enough to add a drop of liquid honey, heated in a water bath. After this, you need to insert the turunda into the ear canal for an hour so that the medications do not spill out.
For oral administration, you can use sea buckthorn in its pure form (10 ml twice a day). It is also recommended to mix sea buckthorn oil with honey (1:1), lubricate the tonsils or dilute it in a glass of warm water for rinsing. Take three times a day.

This will ensure deeper penetration of the medicine into the larynx. After the procedure, it is forbidden to eat or drink liquids for half an hour. This will allow the healing substances to have more impact on the affected area.

to the content? The benefits of sea buckthorn oil in the treatment of ENT diseases: video
Most people have encountered the symptoms of pharyngitis, but not everyone knows what traditional methods can be used to treat this disease. Pharyngitis is an inflammation of the throat mucosa, which is characterized by constant dryness in the mouth and soreness. To relieve discomfort, many lovers of alternative medicine use sea buckthorn oil for pharyngitis.
Features of sea buckthorn treatment
For the first time, sea buckthorn juice was used for medical purposes to treat burns and diseases of internal organs.
It also did an excellent job of restoring the body after serious illnesses and strengthening the immune system. Subsequently, sea buckthorn oil found application in the prevention of skin diseases and restoration of hair health.
Sea buckthorn oil is used both in folk and traditional medicine. It is included in many drugs, ranging from syrups to tablets. This medicine has gained popularity and a wide range of uses due to its properties:
- Promotes rapid healing of wounds;
- Completely relieves mild pain and suppresses severe pain;
- Takes part in cell regeneration;
- Relieves inflammation and reduces swelling;
In addition, the oil is easily applied to damaged tissues without causing severe discomfort. Softens and moisturizes dry mucous membranes, which is why it is often used for sore throats. Sea buckthorn has a rich vitamin composition, in which the A-group predominates. This is why the berries have a bright orange color.
The use of sea buckthorn covers a large group of diseases:
- Skin infectious diseases;
- Bacterial and viral damage to the throat and respiratory tract;
- ENT diseases;
- Joint diseases;
- Pathologies of the gastrointestinal tract;
- Initial stages of hemorrhoids.
The list does not end there. The wound-healing properties of sea buckthorn make it possible to use it for any injuries that disrupt the integrity of the soft tissue.
Most often, sea buckthorn oil is used to treat sore throats and colds. A cotton swab is moistened in it and the mucous membrane of the larynx and tonsils is gently lubricated. In addition, oil inhalations are performed, allowing therapeutic vapors to penetrate the respiratory tract and treat inaccessible parts of the throat.
For sore throat, sea buckthorn is used for eight to ten days. During this period, the pain decreases significantly, inflammation and swelling are relieved. If you use sea buckthorn oil in complex treatment, along with other drugs, you can completely get rid of a sore throat in a week.
As a complication during advanced sore throat or other colds, sinusitis often occurs and adenoids appear. A couple of drops of sea buckthorn oil in each nostril will help get rid of them. The medicine will cover the nasal mucosa with a thin layer, which will enhance its therapeutic effect. It should be separately noted that sea buckthorn is used no less effectively for colds.
Due to the high content of fatty acids, the oil can cause allergies. Therefore, before you start using a 100% solution, it is better to use a mixture of oils. You also need to check yourself for sensitivity to components. This is a standard procedure: apply a couple of drops to the inside of the forearm and leave for half an hour.
If during this time no signs of allergy appear: rash, redness, itching, then everything is in order, using sea buckthorn oil will not cause harm.
Beneficial properties of sea buckthorn oil for the throat
Sea buckthorn oil has been treating pharyngitis for several centuries. Our ancestors knew about its benefits, since sea buckthorn is a storehouse of vitamins, micro- and macroelements. These berries contain a number of useful components:
- B vitamins,
- Vitamin C, A, K, P;
- Magnesium;
- Calcium;
- Iron;
- Molybdenum, etc.
All vegetable oils have moisturizing and enveloping properties, which is especially required for inflammation of the throat mucosa. Traditional experts in alternative medicine often use olive oil, peach oil and rosehip oil in recipes for the treatment of pharyngitis. Every patient has the right to choose the type of product that does not cause an allergic reaction.
Herbal concentrates can cause allergic reactions, so it is better to consult a doctor before use.
If we talk about the properties of sea buckthorn oil, it effectively cleanses and moisturizes the nasal passages. To prevent the bacterial infection from spreading throughout the ENT organs, it is recommended to instill it into the nasal passages. The liquid should flow slightly down the back of the throat.
Many otolaryngologists recommend using sea buckthorn oil in the treatment of pharyngitis, because it has a strong anti-inflammatory and anti-edematous effect. When the mucous membrane of the throat is inflamed, the patient experiences severe pain when simply swallowing saliva. Drinking drinks and eating food causes even greater discomfort. To reduce pain, it is necessary to reduce swelling in the throat. When the inflammatory process subsides, sea buckthorn oil also continues to act.
Stimulating tissue regeneration is one of the beneficial properties of berries. This herbal product is prescribed even for sore throats and acute tonsillitis, because it quickly restores the integrity of the mucous membrane. With tonsillitis, the tonsils and mucous membranes become covered with a thick coating and pustules, which hurt terribly and remain inflamed for a long time. Sea buckthorn oil is not only a powerful antiseptic, but is considered a natural pain reliever.
There is nothing to worry about if particles of juice get inside, because it effectively strengthens the immune system. Due to the wide range of useful amino acids, vitamins and microelements, the oil can be used not only in rinses, but also in the form of inhalation, nasal drops, or simply external treatment of the throat mucosa.
How to get rid of a cough? Sea buckthorn oil for throat
Diseases of the upper respiratory tract are the most common, especially in the autumn-winter period. Even slight hypothermia can cause the growth and development of microorganisms in the pharynx or tracheobronchial tree. As a result, sore throats, pharyngitis or bronchitis occur. A sore throat, painful cough and general intoxication appear.
One of the ways to combat unpleasant symptoms and etiological agents of colds is sea buckthorn oil. It helps a person recover in a short time by gently and carefully interacting with the mucous membrane of the respiratory tract.
Is it possible to treat a sore throat with sea buckthorn oil?
Microorganisms entering the mucous membrane of the pharynx cause swelling, maceration and inflammation. As a result, a person experiences pain, a dry, painful and irritating cough.
Similar to the benefits of flaxseed oil for the body, the range of uses of sea buckthorn oil is quite wide. Thus, thanks to the combination of natural components, the medicinal properties of sea buckthorn oil for the throat are that it:
- heals macerated surfaces of the tonsils and pharynx;
- relieves pain;
- destroys microbes, having an antibacterial effect;
- reduces inflammation activity;
- lubricates and moisturizes the mucous membrane of the pharynx;
- enhances local immune defense (taking olive oil on an empty stomach has a similar effect).
As a result of topical use of sea buckthorn oil against cough, a rapid positive effect is observed - recovery occurs in a short time. However, in the presence of purulent discharge from the tonsils, the effectiveness of the natural components is reduced, so the oil can only be used as an additional means to alleviate the suffering of the patient.
Using sea buckthorn oil for the throat
As with using sea buckthorn oil for a runny nose, there are several options for using it for a cough. The attending physician will advise you on the exact choice after determining the activity of the inflammatory process in the throat. The most current uses of sea buckthorn oil are described below.
External
The most popular option. The local effect of sea buckthorn oil is irreplaceable and effectively accelerates the regeneration of inflamed tissues.
There are two options for external use of sea buckthorn oil for coughs - in the form of rinses and for lubricating the mucous membrane.
In the first case, the product is diluted with sunflower or olive oil in a ratio of 1:10. You need to gargle 5 times a day for at least 1 minute.
In the second case, undiluted oil is applied directly to the tonsils using a cotton swab. This dramatically accelerates the healing of lacunae with sore throat.
Inside
This application will help stimulate the body's defenses. Thanks to a set of vitamins and natural hormones, sea buckthorn oil accelerates metabolism and the elimination of toxic products. As a result, as with consuming flaxseed oil on an empty stomach, the immune system is stimulated, which leads to a speedy recovery of the person.
Sea buckthorn oil should be taken orally undiluted, 2 drops 2 times a day, washed down with plenty of boiled water.
In the form of inhalations
This is a particularly effective way to use sea buckthorn oil for dry coughs. Concentrated sea buckthorn oil in the amount of 6 drops is diluted with 500 ml of boiling water. Then you just need to inhale the vapors of the natural remedy, after covering your head with a towel. Duration of inhalation is at least 15 minutes, repeat 3 times a day.
Each option for using sea buckthorn oil will have a complex positive effect on the condition of the mucous membrane of the upper respiratory tract. However, you should not completely refuse the help of a specialist - in some situations you cannot do without traditional drug treatment. However, even in this case, sea buckthorn oil will help to significantly speed up the healing process.

The use of sea buckthorn oil for the throat in children
If a very young child has pharyngitis, getting him to gargle will take a long and tedious time. What kid can lubricate a sore throat? Compresses with sea buckthorn oil were invented specifically for the treatment of young children. Such procedures should be carried out only after checking the allergy test.
How to conduct a sensitivity test?
To do this, before the procedure, it is enough to apply 2-3 drops of sea buckthorn oil to the skin of the baby’s wrist or elbow. If within 10-15 minutes no redness, itching, urticaria, or swelling appears at the application site, then the composition is completely safe for the child’s health. Doctors advise carrying out such an allergy test before using any new composition or product. Children's skin is very sensitive, so it is important to always carry out such preparatory procedures.
Recipe:
For a compress, use pure sea buckthorn oil. It is applied to a thin layer of gauze and placed on the throat. Before applying gauze, it is better to lubricate the skin with moisturizer. Keep the compress for about 1.5 hours. For convenience, this procedure should be carried out before bedtime, when the child calms down.
The high effectiveness of sea buckthorn oil in the treatment of throat diseases in children was noticed when using inhalations. If the temperature is normal, then inhalations based on sea buckthorn oil are recommended 1-2 times a day.
Recipe for inhalation:
To carry out such therapeutic procedures, take 400-500 ml of boiling water and add 5 drops of essential oil to it. Mix everything and breathe over the resulting steam for 2-3 minutes. Be sure to wrap your head in a thick towel on top so that the steam does not escape past the patient. For adults, this time period is increased to 10 minutes.
