Physiotherapy KUF in the nose and throat, what is it?

The mechanism of action of the procedure

Many patients wonder, what is KUF? The essence of this procedure is that short ultraviolet waves have a beneficial effect on the body that has been exposed to various viruses. In addition, the flow affects the creation of biologically active radicals, and they destroy the structures of pathogenic organisms. Waves have a certain spectrum length:

  • from 180 to 280 nm – have bactericidal and antiviral effects;
  • 254 nm – promote mutations of viruses and bacteria, depriving them of the ability to reproduce. Actively affects the bacteria of tetanus, diphtheria, dysentery and staphylococcus.

This type of physiotherapy is used in two areas:

  • the process of blood transfusion with irradiation with UV rays;
  • impact on infected mucous membranes and damaged skin areas.

Irradiation of the blood helps to increase the amount of hemoglobin bound to oxygen, and this improves the nutrition of cells, the body and the brain.

The procedure also helps remove toxins from the body, relieve symptoms and improve the patient’s condition.

Short ultraviolet waves have the following properties:

  • antifungal;
  • antibacterial;
  • antiviral;
  • immunostimulating;
  • normalizes blood clotting;
  • accelerates metabolic processes.

UV waves have no thermal effect. They have low penetration ability, so their exposure is limited to a distance of 1 mm from the skin.

Advantages and disadvantages of procedures

Physical therapy has benefits that sometimes make it preferable to surgery:

  • less stress on the body - heating, exposure to current and UHF result in much less stress than local anesthesia and cutting out the pharyngeal tonsil;
  • general healing effect - the effect of physiotherapy is complex, it not only helps to cure adenoids, but also improves immunity;
  • a small number of contraindications - there are more of them for surgery.

In addition, physiotherapy allows you to target the pharyngeal tonsil and combine several methods at the same time: the doctor can prescribe UHF, mud therapy and laser therapy to the child at the same time.

The effect of physiotherapy is visible after just a few procedures, and general relief is noted immediately.

Harm and benefits of KUF

This technique has both positive and negative sides.

The first thing that catches your eye from the positive effects is an increase in the production of vitamin D, an improvement in the condition of the epidermis and the production of melanin.
After a course of treatment, urocanic acid accumulates in the body, DNA fragments are restored, synthesis processes are normalized and enzymes are formed that are needed to weaken unbound oxygen.
The use of short UV waves in treatment reduces the likelihood of negative consequences of various diseases several times and is the safest method of using ultraviolet radiation.

The negative consequences of using CUF are not significant, but they still occur:

  • negative impact on the cornea of the eye;
  • acceleration of aging processes from light fluxes;
  • radiation burns of mucous membranes;
  • Long-term development of oncological processes cannot be ruled out.

These consequences mainly arise due to incorrect and unprofessional use of the device, and are also possible during self-medication.

Physiotherapy is a method of treatment using natural or artificially created physical factors affecting the human body. There are many such physical factors - ultrasound, currents (darsonvalization), laser (laser therapy), magnetic field (magnetotherapy), various types of radiation (ultraviolet, infrared), massage, medicinal electrophoresis, darsonvalization, electrosleep and others. Shortwave ultraviolet radiation (SWUV) therapy for the nose and throat is particularly beneficial.

Modern methods of physiotherapy have a pronounced analgesic and anti-inflammatory effect. The outcome of the disease as a whole often depends on the timely inclusion of physiotherapeutic measures in the treatment complex.

Physiotherapy awakens the body's internal reserves, strengthens the immune system and thereby shortens the treatment time, accelerates the healing of wounds and inflammation, activates the most important biochemical processes in the body, tuning the body's natural forces for recovery. For example, darsonvalization is used to treat disorders in superficial tissues and mucous membranes, as well as hair, i.e. darsonvalization can also be used for cosmetic purposes. Magnetic therapy is indicated for diseases of the spine and joints, due to its analgesic, anti-edematous, antispasmodic and anti-inflammatory effects.

Physiotherapeutic procedures are prescribed to each patient strictly individually, taking into account the individual characteristics of the course of the disease, its stage, the person’s age, etc. The occurrence of side effects after the use of physiotherapeutic techniques is practically excluded. Often, physical therapy helps to cope with diseases that have long been resistant to treatment using traditional methods. The list of diseases using physiotherapeutic procedures is extensive: chronic and inflammatory diseases of the musculoskeletal system (magnetic therapy), gastrointestinal tract, respiratory system, allergic processes, scarring and allergic changes in the skin and mucous membranes, after surgical interventions, as medical rehabilitation in a broad sense . The Krasnodar balneotherapy clinic offers a wide range of physiotherapeutic techniques: electrosleep “Superson”, magnetotherapy, darsonvalization, laser therapy, ozokerite-paraffin therapy, electrophoresis with mud solution and drugs, magnetotherapy, ultraton, laser therapy, FUF (short-wave ultraviolet radiation), electrosleep. Their detailed description is presented in the methods section - physiotherapeutic procedures.

Above are the prices for physiotherapeutic procedures at the KBL Health Recovery Center.

Indications for FUF of the nose and pharynx

Due to its broad scope of action, this technique has many indications for use. It is safe and can be prescribed to the elderly and children. It is also possible to use the technique during pregnancy. Procedures are prescribed exclusively by the doctor.

Procedures are prescribed:

  • with bronchitis;
  • for diseases of the inner ear;
  • for sore throat (UF is used on the tonsils);
  • with pharyngitis;
  • with weakened immunity;
  • with a runny nose;
  • with sinusitis;
  • with tonsillitis;
  • for various dermatological pathologies;
  • for skin disorders caused by fungal or bacterial diseases.

If one of the above indications is present, then after assessing the patient’s condition and the advisability of prescribing FUF therapy, the doctor prescribes treatment.

Indications

The FUF procedure has a number of indications and contraindications that are important for the patient and doctor to consider.

Among all the physiotherapeutic techniques that are used in ENT practice, the described method has one of the largest range of indications. These include:

  • Bronchitis in various stages and forms (acute and chronic obstructive).
  • Pain syndrome with neuritis of the facial nerve and other diseases of the peripheral nervous system.
  • Reduced immunity in children and people with acquired immunodeficiency - as a means of prevention.
  • Throat diseases: chronic pharyngitis, tonsillitis, sore throat.
  • Sinusitis and other types of sinusitis. It is produced in the acute phase of catarrhal sinusitis and at the stage of rehabilitation after purulent diseases of the paranasal sinuses.
  • Chronic rhinitis of infectious nature.
  • Diseases of the middle ear, for example, chronic otitis media.
  • Inflammation of the larynx: laryngitis during influenza and ARVI.

This treatment method can be used in adults, children and elderly patients. Physiotherapy of the pharynx and nose during a purulent process is indicated only in the recovery stage.

Skin treatment

Therapy may also be prescribed for the treatment of skin wounds. Treatment of mild suppurations occurs in combination with magnetotherapy and infrared irradiation. To prevent the formation of a purulent cavity, the treating doctor may prescribe KUF. The course is prescribed in increments of 2-3 biodoses. The procedures are carried out every other day.

Suppuration is irradiated in 4-8 biodoses. In such a situation, better conditions are created for the rejection of dead tissue. The second stage is the stimulation of epithelial restoration. Treatment is carried out in suberythemal doses.

Wounds without pus are irradiated in 2-3 biodoses. The procedure may also affect healthy skin. 4-5 cm from the wound is acceptable. The procedure is repeated every two days. A similar procedure is carried out for ruptured ligaments and muscles.

When is CUF contraindicated?

This technique is safe, but despite this, it has a number of contraindications:

  • skin response to ultraviolet radiation;
  • the presence of tumors in the area exposed to rays;
  • dysfunction of the immune system;
  • bleeding disorders;
  • mental disorders;
  • hepatitis;
  • disorders of the kidneys;
  • strokes;
  • heart attacks.

If during the procedures a deterioration in the patient’s condition is noticed, the procedures must be stopped immediately and the doctor must be informed.

Before prescribing this procedure, it is necessary to analyze the patient's radiation tolerance. If any negative reactions are noticed during the analysis, the procedure is not prescribed.

Methodology of the procedure

This procedure is applied directly to the affected areas.
When performing EF for the nose or throat, special attachments are used. They direct the beam and provide a positive treatment effect. The procedure is carried out in a sitting position, as it takes some time. Its duration is determined by the doctor at the appointment. To ensure accurate beam delivery, the patient tilts his head back and places the nozzle in his nose or throat. The healthcare worker turns on the device only after the patient is in the correct position. This is done so as not to injure the retina. During EF, the patient does not experience any negative sensations.

When using KUF for the pharynx, a characteristic taste is felt in the mouth, and when using the KUF procedure for the nose, a characteristic odor is felt. Various attachments can cause a number of inconveniences, but after several sessions the patient gets used to their features.

Sometimes therapy is used for preventive effects on the body. In this case, the chest, neck and face are treated using wide nozzles. This improves the body's protective functions.

In the presence of certain pathologies, irradiation can be carried out simultaneously through the larynx and nose. The doctor determines the technique.

In diseases of the nose, the influence appears to be through each nostril. Each nostril is allocated the same amount of time. On average, the procedure time does not exceed 10 minutes, sometimes it can reach 20 minutes. When performing FUF on the tonsils, an attachment with a mirror is used to scatter the rays over the affected surface. This makes the procedure a one-step process.

In acute forms of the disease, the procedure begins with one biodose and gradually increases it to three. Treatment can be repeated after a month.

How is it carried out?

The technique of ultraviolet exposure depends on the indications for its use. The physiotherapy device is a large metal cylinder from which several tubes are directed that can conduct short ultraviolet waves. At the end of each tube there is a tip of different diameters depending on the point of application of the procedure:

  1. Physiotherapy for diseases of the nose and paranasal sinuses is carried out in a sitting position. The patient's head is tilted back, and a tube is placed into the nasal passage, which emits waves. FUF exposure is performed alternately in each nostril of the patient.
  2. Diseases of the throat and pharynx are performed using a larger tube. The head should be tilted back when treating the pharynx and larynx. The tube is marked into the oral cavity, after which the device begins to emit radiation.
  3. Diseases of the posterior pharyngeal wall require the use of a special attachment in the form of a mirror. The latter reflects short waves and allows them to be directed to inaccessible areas of the organ.

The procedure is absolutely painless and does not lead to any discomfort in the patient. During and after the procedure, you may feel a feeling of warmth at the site of treatment, which quickly passes.

Alternative at home

This physiotherapy at home is carried out with the help of devices for FFA, only models that are used at home are more mobile and smaller in size.
The strength of the supplied UV radiation is much lower. The most common model is the Sun device .
The duration of the procedure on it will be longer than on professional devices. When prescribing a procedure at home, the patient must name the model and indicate its power so that the doctor can correctly calculate the duration of therapy. Using therapy at home significantly reduces the time spent going to hospitals and saves travel costs. Treatment at home will allow the patient to feel more comfortable and relaxed. KUF allows you to do without many expensive drugs that can cause irreparable harm to the patient’s liver.

To strengthen the immune system, it is useful to use ultraviolet lamps. They clean the room from various bacteria and viruses within their range of action. This affects the reduction of morbidity and chronic exacerbations. Also, this reduces the risk of contracting various viral infections during epidemics.

Interesting information

FUF is a fairly effective procedure that, under the supervision of a specialist and properly used, brings benefits to the human body. Treatment can only be prescribed by a doctor on an individual basis.

This therapy is prescribed to children from a very early age, as well as pregnant and lactating women.

No preparation is required for the therapy and it can be done at home. It is only important to set the appropriate range of ultraviolet waves and set the duration of the procedure. To use the device correctly at home, you must read the instructions and consult your doctor.

Despite the development of medicine, physiotherapy remains as popular and in demand. It is one of the most effective and efficient methods of complex therapy in the treatment of infectious and viral diseases of the ENT organs. Short-spectrum ultraviolet waves have a disinfecting effect and stop inflammatory processes. The procedure is widely known not only in medicine, but also in cosmetology.

Contraindications

Physiotherapy cannot be performed at elevated temperatures.

Having figured out whether it is possible to do physical therapy for adenoids, you should consider contraindications. Among them:

  • individual intolerance to the chosen method of influence,
  • age up to three years,
  • acute inflammatory processes,
  • bacterial infection,
  • high body temperature,
  • suspicion of cancer
  • epilepsy (for electric shock methods).

Age under three years is not an absolute contraindication. Thus, mud therapy and inhalations can be done at a younger age. In other cases, you need to consult a doctor.
