Composition, mechanism of action, and effectiveness of the drug Dolphin

When a person begins to show the first signs of a runny nose, he very often goes to the pharmacy to buy vasoconstrictors for nasal instillation. However, few people know that in this case they are powerless. They are designed to constrict blood vessels and reduce swelling of the nasal mucosa, but the cause of inflammation is not removed. As a result, treatment with such drops can provoke damage to the walls of blood vessels, and subsequently the nose will be constantly blocked.

That is why you need to buy products not only to relieve the symptoms of a runny nose and rinse the nose, but also to eliminate the cause of such a symptom. Today we will tell you about Dolphin for rinsing the nose. The instructions for use of the product state that it effectively relieves the runny nose and its causes due to the presence of biologically active components and natural mineral salts in its composition.

Release form of Dolphin for children and adults

Nasal rinsing with this drug is prescribed for both children and adults. The application of the product is carried out in a course. The complex has the form of a powder , which must be diluted with water according to the instructions for use and poured into a special device.

Dolphin complexes come in two types:

  • adult – the set includes a 240 ml bottle and 30 sachets of powder, each 2 g;
  • complex for children (3–7 years old) – 120 ml bottle, 30 1 gram sachets.

One course of treatment consists of one set. Subsequent use should be agreed with your doctor on an individual basis.

The washing device has the form of a dispenser cap equipped with a tube. Depending on who is planning to perform the rinsing - an adult or a child, one or another bottle capacity is selected. In the rinsing device, you can adjust the force and speed of supply of contents into the nasal passage. The nasal rinsing procedure itself is quite quick, and unpleasant sensations are eliminated, which is very important when used for children.

Dolphin, proper nasal rinsing

  1. Dilute 2 gr. powder in 240 ml of boiled water at a temperature of about 36 ° C immediately before the procedure. Higher or lower temperatures reduce the effect and, instead of healing, can worsen the runny nose and cause complications. The prepared solution must be consumed during one procedure.
  2. The nasal passages are washed one by one: the dispenser is inserted into the nostril, its surface should fit snugly against the walls of the nose to prevent the solution from leaking out.
  3. Bend over a bathtub or washbasin (90 degree angle) and begin rinsing by smoothly and slowly squeezing the bottle. Excessively rapid administration can both injure the nose and contribute to the drug entering the Eustachian tube. When the drug is administered correctly, it begins to flow out of the other nostril. It is also possible to leak through the mouth, with the best solution being to spit out the liquid.
  4. After using the 50% solution, remove the bottle without opening it and blow your nose. The bottle is inserted into the second nostril, the subsequent steps repeat those already carried out.
  5. After the remainder of the liquid has been completely injected, the empty bottle is strongly compressed and inserted into the nose, and the fingers are unclenched. Thus, the remaining drug is removed from the nasal passage. Both nostrils need to be cleaned. The procedure is not recommended to be performed before going to bed or before leaving the house, since after it is completed, fluid may be released from the nasal passages for some time.

The only significant drawback when using the Dolphin solution, which some patients complain about, is a not very pleasant feeling of pressure in the nose, which does not happen when using the same Aquamaris. Otherwise, Dolphin is superior to the mentioned analogue in many respects.

If a child needs to undergo the procedure, the method of action is no different from rinsing the nose in an adult patient, the only difference is the amount of solution. Dolphin for children is packaged in quantities of 1 gram. per serving, it is diluted in 120 ml of water. It is also not recommended to use Dolphin with herbal supplements for children, since in children, in cases of rhinitis, the allergic reaction occurs more quickly than in adults.

The procedure for rinsing the nose in pregnant patients should be carried out with increased caution, given the enlargement of the vessels of the intranasal sinuses, due to which the nasal passages can be significantly narrowed. It is preferable to use Dolphin solution without herbal additives.

Dolphin for rinsing the nasal passages: indications for use

If you study the instructions for the drug Dolphin, the indications for use for children and adults are as follows:

  • rhinitis in acute and chronic form;
  • chronic and acute sinusitis;
  • sinusitis;
  • frontal sinusitis;
  • rhinitis during pregnancy;
  • prevention and treatment of allergic rhinitis;
  • dry nasal mucosa;
  • acute or chronic otitis media;
  • adenoids in children;
  • postoperative recovery (after surgery in the nasal area);

Dolphin: instructions for use

The instructions suggest the following use of the drug:

  • pour boiled water heated to 35 degrees into a bottle with a capacity of 120 ml (for children) or 240 ml;
  • pours powder from the bag into it;
  • close the bottle with a lid and shake it until the powder is completely dissolved.

If the patient has a stuffy nose, then vasoconstrictor drops (for example, Xylometazoline or Naphthyzin) should be injected into the nostrils before rinsing Then the nose is cleaned and only then can the rinsing procedure begin. It looks like this:

  • lean over the sink and apply the bottle cap to the nostril;
  • hold your breath and press on it;
  • the liquid enters the nose, then passes into the other nostril and flows out of it;
  • repeat from the second nostril;
  • After rinsing, blow your nose well.

What to consider when rinsing your nose with Dolphin:

  • When rinsing, you should not tilt your head to the side so that liquid does not get into the middle ear;
  • within 10 minutes after the rinsing procedure, liquid may come out of the nose, so it is not recommended to do it before bed;
  • in cold weather, rinse the nose about half an hour before going outside;
  • The pressure on the bottle when pressing should be slow, do not press it sharply.

Stuffed ear after rinsing: what to do

Sometimes, after washing with Dolphin or another similar drug, people complain of ear congestion. This is due to the fact that water gets into it, this, in turn, can trigger the development of eustachitis.

If water gets into your ear, do the following:

  • From the side of the blocked ear, vasoconstrictor drops are instilled into the nose and the head is kept tilted for about 5 minutes;
  • We take an empty used bottle for rinsing, squeeze it and apply it to the nostril, and close the opposite one with your finger. Unclench it in this position and repeat from the second nostril. Thanks to this action, the water remaining in the nasal cavity and ear will be able to come out;
  • Do not rinse for 5 days and contact an ENT specialist.

Evidence of effectiveness

The Novosibirsk developers of the drug Dolphin not only created a unique composition and developed an irrigator.
They also made sure that the effectiveness of their device and drug was fully proven. Clinical studies took place at the largest research bases in Novosibirsk, the drug’s hometown, as well as Moscow and St. Petersburg. Thus, a test carried out with the assistance of the Novosibirsk mayor’s office, which was carried out during an epidemiologically dangerous period (from October to April 2009–2010) in kindergartens and schools of the city, proved that Dolphin helps reduce the incidence of children by three times. The experiment involved 3,516 small volunteers, each of whom had their throat and nose washed with Dolphin once a day. Scientists were very surprised when in one of the groups of children the increase in incidence decreased to record low numbers - 6-9 times compared to the same periods in previous years.

Moscow scientists, based on an in-depth study of the effectiveness of Dolphin in the treatment of acute rhinosinusitis (including sinusitis), have proven that irrigation with the drug leads to a significant increase in the frequency of cilia beating.

Let us recall that the cilia covering the epithelium of the mucous membrane of the nasal cavity are the most important component of the mucociliary system, which prevents fluid retention in the nasal cavity and sinuses.

In addition, it was found that the effectiveness of Dolphin treatment is significantly higher than the result of conventional rinsing with saline solution. Moreover, during the study, not a single case of adverse reactions was recorded during or after the course of treatment.

We have not provided all the evidence of the positive qualities of the product. However, even this selective information reflects the effectiveness and high safety profile of Dolphin, and reviews from doctors and patients fully confirm this.

Dolphin: possible side effects and contraindications

Side effects after using Dolphin include:

  • nose bleed;
  • Eustachitis is an inflammatory disease of the Eustachian tube located in the middle ear.

Contraindications to the use of Dolphin according to the instructions are:

  • children under 3–4 years old;
  • the patient's tendency to bleed from the nose;
  • malignant and benign tumors in the nose;
  • allergy to the components of the drug;
  • complete congestion;
  • mechanical airway obstruction (for example, deviated nasal septum).

Dolphin washing device

Novosibirsk scientists were able to create a simple but very effective combination of a regular bottle for irrigating the nasal cavity and the famous “Neti pot”.
The plastic tank in which Dolphin powder is dissolved has elastic walls and a precisely adjusted diameter of the outlet hole. The combination of these two seemingly simple qualities ensures that the solution is sprayed at the required speed and pressure. It is enough to wash the remote paranasal sinuses and is clearly not enough to provoke inflammatory processes in the middle ear. But with too powerful, diligent rinsing, it is otitis media that is the main side effect, especially in children.

The Dolphin bottle has a volume of 240 ml, which is enough to completely rinse both paranasal sinuses (120 ml for each).

Dolphin for children: washing features

Many parents are actively interested in whether it is possible to wash their children’s noses with Dolphin, at what age this is allowed and in what cases. The instructions stipulate that children can only be given rinsing from 4 (or 3) years of age. Dolphin perfectly helps relieve children from pathological nasal discharge and treats adenoids.

For children, doctors may prescribe this rinse in the following cases:

  • sinusitis;
  • rhinitis (allergic, chronic or acute);
  • prevention of influenza and ARVI;
  • dry nose;
  • pharyngitis;
  • tonsillitis;
  • ethmoiditis;
  • frontal sinusitis;
  • preparing the nose for surgery.

Most doctors claim that Dolphin is completely safe for children and is more effective than other sea salt-based medications.

Additional Information

Take note:

  • manufacturer of the Dolphin set is Russian;
  • do not store the opened bag: the lack of sealed packaging opens the way for various microorganisms, including pathogenic ones;
  • the storage room for the Dolphin set should be cool, up to +20…+22 degrees.

Keep the nasal decongestant away from children. Young researchers do not always understand that the bag contains medicine and not “tea for children.” The drug is created on the basis of natural ingredients, but ingestion does not benefit the body. In case of accidental ingestion, sorbents (Polysorb, Enterosgel) and drinking plenty of fluids are recommended. Cleanse the stomach and intestines: induce vomiting, give a laxative.

Dolphin and its analogues

If for one reason or another the Dolphin wash is not suitable for the patient, he can choose a number of analogues. The most common analogue is Aqua Maris (made in Croatia). Its price is practically the same as Dolphin, but doctors note that the latter is more effective.

Other analogues for adults and children include:

  • Nazol;
  • Salin;
  • Nazivin;
  • Sinomarin;
  • For nose;
  • Delufen;
  • Sinupret;
  • Aqualor;
  • Pinosol;
  • Aleron and others.

Average prices for the drug

It is believed that the price of the Dolphin complex is quite high. However, even this does not stop many patients, since it is considered the most effective means for rinsing the nose and treating a runny nose.

The price depends on the release form:

  • Dolphin for rinsing together with the device and 10 sachets of 2 g each for adults costs about 400 rubles;
  • a washing device and 30 sachets of 1 g each for children - about 600 rubles;
  • sachets 30 sachets of 1 g for children – 320 rubles;

Unique remedy Dolphin

Dolphin is not the most common drug.
Unlike most competitors that contain sodium chloride or mineral analogues of sea water, Dolphin is a so-called mineral-herbal remedy. The drug contains trace elements, as well as extracts of two medicinal plants, which, when dissolved in water, form a balanced complex. In terms of salt composition, Dolphin solution is close to blood plasma. Compared to sea water, the drug is more “physiological” - it does not form an insoluble sediment, which is possible due to the low content of calcium and sulfates. Let us add that in all sea salts, without exception, such a precipitate occurs, and this is considered a serious drawback of these medicines. So, Dolphin includes:

  • iodine, sodium chloride - substances with an antiseptic effect;
  • magnesium, which normalizes the functioning of the cilia of the ciliated epithelium;
  • zinc, selenium are microelements necessary for the synthesis of antibacterial biologically active substances. Zinc and selenium ions are involved in the formation of local immune defense;
  • calcium, sulfates.

In addition to minerals, the complex includes extracts:

  • licorice extract, which has antiallergic properties and helps normalize water-salt balance;
  • rosehip extract, which contains a multivitamin complex rich in ascorbic acid, carotene, thiamine, vitamin K1 and minerals - salts of potassium, sodium, iron, magnesium, phosphorus and others.

The effectiveness of Dolphin is ensured not only due to its unique composition. Russian developers have also proposed convenient devices for washing, which allow the procedure to be carried out with the highest quality.
