Thuja oil properties and contraindications

What is thuja oil

This remedy is obtained from the cones of an evergreen plant that grows mostly in North America and East Asia. Thuja, which means tree of life in Greek, belongs to the cypress family. The plant is often a shrub, but in rare cases it can grow to a more impressive size. Thuja oil is a homeopathic pharmaceutical preparation and is rightfully considered one of the most toxic esters, which, in fact, does not detract from its unique pharmacological effects.

The product is extracted exclusively by simple steam distillation without lengthy post-processing. Any other method of producing ether is considered unacceptable due to the high toxicity of the starting material. At the same time, some manufacturers carefully clean the aromatic oil from toxic components. It must be said that such esters do not have the full range of beneficial properties characteristic of a regular product.

Thuja essential oil

The raw materials for obtaining oil are thujas that are at least 15 years old. The ether is isolated from the cones and needles of the plant by steam distillation. The result is a yellowish liquid with a bright pine aroma, which has a tonic effect.

Despite the fact that thuja is a common ornamental plant used to decorate landscapes around the globe, ether is produced only in Canada and the United States.

Thuja oil is used mainly for medical purposes, less often in cosmetology.

Due to the fact that thuja essential oil is a very toxic substance, it is sold mainly in pharmacies on the recommendations of doctors as a medicine.

Almost half of thuja oil consists of the toxin thujone, which can be deadly if used carelessly.

Pure essential oil is practically not available for sale. Basically these are special medicinal oils or preparations based on it.

Beneficial features

The range of healing qualities of thuja is very wide. The ether obtained from this coniferous evergreen plant is able to relieve various types of allergic reactions, as well as alleviate their symptoms. Infusions and extracts of thuja are used for the prevention of cancer . According to some reports, the healing composition is recommended for use in rheumatism. In addition, the use of ether from thuja cones is indicated for women with menstrual irregularities caused by hormonal imbalance. Thuja oil homeopathic

For the treatment of children, only homeopathic thuja oil is used . Mothers need to be especially careful with thuja oil. If a doctor prescribes thuja oil as a treatment for a child, be sure to specify the name of the medicine. And buy at the pharmacy exactly what the doctor prescribed. Because using thuja essential oil instead of homeopathic oil can be dangerous for a child.

Homeopathic thuja oil is a very low dilution of the active substance. Essential oil of Western Thuja (Thúja occidentális) is used in preparations for children.

Next to the name of the active substance in homeopathic preparations, the degree of its dilution is indicated. The letter D indicates that the dilution is decimal. And the number next to it is how many times the 10-fold dilution was repeated or (to simplify it completely) the number of zeros.

So the designation D1 means dilution by 10 times, D3 by 1,000 times, D6 by 1,000,000 times, D12 by 1,000,000,000,000 times. The letter C indicates that the dilution is a hundredfold, C6 indicates a dilution of 1,000,000,000,000 times.

The effectiveness of such drugs is questionable. They are criticized by official medicine. But they are safe. Since they contain only traces of active ingredients. They do not cause allergies or side effects.

All homeopathic preparations with thuja oil are officially registered in Russia. They can be found in medical reference books. All of them are made in Russia, but from different manufacturers.

Some of these medications are contraindicated in children due to a lack of clinical trials. Homeopathic medicines can be prescribed for a long time until symptoms disappear completely.
