What is better for otitis media: otipax or anauran?

Anauran is an ear drop intended for the treatment of otitis media, an inflammatory process affecting the anterior and middle parts of the hearing organ.

The drug has antibacterial and analgesic effects.

Therapy is indicated for acute and chronic forms of pathology, but provided that there is no perforation of the eardrum. The drug can also be prescribed to prevent bacterial complications during surgical interventions on the organ of hearing.

Anauran ear drops - instructions for use

The drug contains a combination of three active components (polyxin B, neomycin and lidocaine), which effectively destroy most known gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria and relieve pain and itching in the ear. The drug also has a moderate antimycotic (antifungal) effect and can be used as part of complex therapy for otomycosis.

Is Anauran an Antibiotic or Not?

The drug is an antibiotic in combination with an anesthetic. The drug contains two antibacterial components - a polypeptide antibiotic (polymyxin B) and an aminoglycoside (neomycin). The drops also contain an anesthetic - lidocaine.

Due to the combined composition, the product is highly effective and has low rates of acquired resistance in bacteria.

However, it must be remembered that Anauran for otitis media in children under one year of age and pregnant women can be used in short courses, according to strict indications and under the supervision of a specialist.

Pharmacological group

Anauran belongs to ENT antibiotics in combination with anesthetics. Drugs that have an antibacterial and local anesthetic effect, intended for local use in otolaryngology.

Composition of Anauran

The active ingredients of Anauran are:

  • polymyxin B sulfate;
  • neomycin sulfate;
  • lidocaine hydrochloride.

Auxiliary components include:

  • benzalkonium chloride;
  • propylene glycol;
  • glycerol;
  • purified water.

Release form

The drops are placed in a darkened dropper bottle in a volume of 25 milliliters. The shelf life of Anauran is 3 years from the date of release; after opening, the drop should be stored for no more than 3 months.

Anauran recipe in Latin

The drug is subject to prescription dispensing from pharmacies, so you will need to obtain the appropriate form from your treating ENT doctor. It should be filled out like this:

Rp: Anauran 25 ml

DTD №1

DS: instill 3 drops into the ear 4 times a day.

Indications for use of Anauran

Anauran is indicated for use in cases of otitis externa, which occurs in a chronic form or is in the acute stage. The list of indications also includes:

  • acute form of inflammation of the middle part of the hearing organ, not complicated by rupture of the eardrum;
  • exudative otitis of the middle ear in the acute stage;
  • purulent complications caused by surgical interventions to remove pus, the accumulation of which is provoked by previously developed pathological processes;
  • prevention of purulent postoperative complications.

Contraindications to the use of Anauran

The main pathology prohibiting the prescription of the drug is considered to be an allergy to any of its main or auxiliary components; Anauran is also not used in case of perforation (or suspected presence) of the eardrum. Drops are not recommended for children of the first year of life and pregnant women, but in case of emergency, the medicine can be prescribed under strict qualified supervision.

Dosage and method of use Anauran. How to drip correctly?

Drops are instilled into the ear canal using a polyurethane dropper pipette, which is included with the bottle. After the liquid has contacted the ear tissue, the patient is advised to keep his head tilted or lie on his side for a while.

The duration of treatment is determined by the doctor who prescribed the drops, but it should not exceed 7-10 days. When determining the timing of therapy, the age of the patient, the severity of the disease and the pharmacological group of already prescribed medications are taken into account, because Some diseases require additional use of systemic antimicrobial medications.

Anauran is instilled 2-4 times a day:

  • adults 4-5 drops;
  • children 2-3 drops.

The minimum duration of therapy is 3 days.

Side effects and effects of Anauran

In most cases, ear drops are well tolerated by patients; local intolerance reactions occur extremely rarely. Among them I highlight:

  • itching;
  • noise in ears;
  • burning;
  • redness of the skin.

If side effects occur, treatment is stopped.

The presence of systemic reactions has not been recorded, but, according to clinical trials, they are possible if the recommended duration of treatment is significantly exceeded. It can be:

  • hearing loss and dysfunction of the vestibular apparatus;
  • toxic kidney damage.

Anauran during pregnancy and breastfeeding

For women carrying a child, Anauran can be prescribed only in an emergency situation and after balancing the risk for the fetus and the benefit for the mother. It is also worth considering that Anauran during pregnancy is used only under strict medical supervision, and therapy is prescribed as short as possible.

Breastfeeding mothers may be prescribed ear drops, but lactation must be stopped during therapy.

Compatibility of Anauran with alcohol

During the entire drug therapy, drinking alcoholic beverages is prohibited, because such a combination can increase the toxic effect of the drug on internal organs (liver, kidneys) and reduce the effectiveness of the therapy.

Clinical studies studying the compatibility of Anauran and ethyl alcohol have not been conducted, so it is possible that such a deviation from the rules of treatment could cause side effects that were not previously noted.

List of Otipax analogues

There are several medications that are related to the original medicine for ear pain in structure. Such drugs may be based on the same active ingredients or have a similar therapeutic effect due to a different composition, which affects the price of the drug.

In the first case, Otipax analogues differ in cost, since they were produced by companies in different countries.

The quality of medicines depends on the specific brand and equipment used. When treating children, substitutes for the original drug must be selected carefully.

They may contain impurities that are dangerous for babies. When choosing analogs that are similar to Otipax only in the therapeutic effect they produce, it is necessary to take into account age restrictions and the absence of allergic reactions to components other than lidocaine. It is best to make a replacement on the recommendation of a specialist.

  • Otirelax
  • Anauran
  • Candibiotic
  • Otinum
  • Otofa
  • Polydexa
  • Sofradex

Otirelax or otipax

This drug is an absolute analogue of Otipax, which is approved for the treatment of children and adults.
The composition includes lidocaine hydrochloride, phenazole, sodium hydroxide, hyposulfite, glycerol, distilled water and ethanol.

Otirelax has simpler packaging in the form of an opaque bottle with a dropper installed in the neck.

It is possible to treat children from birth and adults with this remedy. Contraindications in this case will be individual intolerance to lidocaine or other components.

Before treatment, you need to consult a doctor who will assess the condition of the eardrum. If this part of the ear is damaged or subject to an inflammatory process with the release of pus, the use of Otirelax or Otipax will be useless.

Otherwise, the choice of one of these two medications depends only on the cost that patients can afford.

Anauran or otipax

The active substances of this product include:

  • polymyxin B;
  • neomycian sulfate;
  • lidocaine.

The last component makes these drops a partial structural analogue of the original drug. To find out which is better - Anauran or Otipax - you need to read the instructions for the first product in more detail.

A product based on polymyxin B fights pathogenic bacteria, but is not very effective against ear diseases caused by streptococci and some types of fungi.

Lidocaine in Anauran performs only an auxiliary function, eliminating itching caused by the irritating effects of the antibiotic and ear pain.

Like Otipax, these drops cannot be used for a perforated eardrum, but the difference is the use of Anauran for purulent infections. Another significant discrepancy in the properties of these drugs is the age limit: a drug with an antibiotic is not used to treat children under one year of age. Anauran can be purchased at a pharmacy only with a prescription.

Candibiotic

These ear drops have a wide range of effects: antimicrobial, antifungal, local anesthetic and anti-inflammatory.
Unlike Otipax, the dosage of lidocaine in this drug is reduced from 40 to 20 mg. Other components include:

  • Beclomethasone dipropionate, which belongs to the group of hormonal drugs, eliminates inflammation and the consequences of allergies.
  • Chloramphenicol is a broad-spectrum antibiotic that does not allow pathogenic bacteria to multiply.
  • Clotrimazole is an antifungal agent.

Candibiotic is used to treat patients with:

  • acute stage of external otitis;
  • acute otitis media of the middle ear;
  • chronic otitis in moments of exacerbation.

This drug is also prescribed for the recovery period after surgery, if the integrity of the eardrum has not been damaged.

It is difficult to answer the question of what will be more effective than Otipak or Candibiotic, since these drops only partially coincide in the nature of the effect, namely, they anesthetize and relieve inflammation.

A candibiotic, which contains more serious components - an antibiotic, a corticosteroid, cannot be chosen as a medicine on its own. Such a remedy should be prescribed by an otolaryngologist if indicated.

Unlike Otipax, Candibiotic cannot be used in patients under 6 years of age. The drug is prescribed with caution during pregnancy and breastfeeding.

Otinum or otipax - which is better?

These ear drops can be called an analogue of Otipax only in terms of their therapeutic effects, since they contain completely different components.
The active ingredient in this product is choline salicylate. This active component combines the properties of an anesthetic and anti-inflammatory agent; it can counteract microbes and fungi.

Otinum is used to treat various types of otitis media and as a preparation for ear rinsing, as the drug softens wax plugs.

The duration of use of drops should be no longer than 10 days, as an adjuvant - up to 4 days.

Otinum or Otipax is not recommended for use in case of damage to the eardrum, so that the patient does not lose hearing.

The first remedy is also contraindicated for nasal polyps, bronchial asthma, and individual intolerance.

The effects of Otinum during pregnancy have not been studied, so it is not prescribed to expectant mothers in order to avoid the development of pathologies in the fetus.

There are no laboratory data on how these drops affect young patients. For this reason, Otinum is not prescribed to children.

Otofa or otipax - what to choose

The drug, sold strictly according to a prescription, contains rifamycin sodium as a base.
This antibiotic does a good job of suppressing the proliferation of the most common bacteria that affect the outer and middle parts of the ear.

Otofu can also be used for a perforated eardrum, unlike Otipax, since the components of the drops do not have a significant effect on hearing.

There are no significant contraindications to the use of this product. Otofu or Otipax are equally often used to treat pregnant women and children, but in the case of the first drug, the dosage is determined by the attending physician depending on the age of the child.

Anauran's analogs

The drug has no complete analogues in composition, but there are substitutes for the drug with a similar therapeutic effect. The list includes:

  • Auridexan;
  • Aurisan;
  • A-cerumen;
  • Droplex;
  • Candibiotic;
  • Miramidesis;
  • Normax;
  • Otinum;
  • Otipax;
  • Otirelax;
  • Otofa;
  • Sofradex;
  • Fugentin.

Which is better, Anauran or Candibiotic?

The Indian product Candibiotic also contains several components, thanks to which it effectively destroys bacteria and fungi, relieves inflammation and eliminates pain. But such components expand the list of side effects, so the patient should be taken into account if the patient is allergic not only to antibiotics, but also to hormonal substances.

Candibiotic is prescribed for the same diagnoses as Anauran, but it can be used no earlier than 6 years of age. The price of the Indian medicine is lower - about 275 rubles versus 330 for Anauran.

For bacterial otitis, Anauran drops are more effective.

Which is better, Anauran or Otipax?

Italian Otipax is not an antibiotic, i.e. its basis is an anti-inflammatory component. It also contains lidocaine.

In the treatment of purulent otitis, Otipax is ineffective. The product is preferable to use for viral otitis, barotraumatic otitis, etc.

The next difference is the volume of droplets. Anauran is available in bottles of 25 milliliters, Otipax - only 10 milliliters, while its cost is lower, but not more than 50 rubles.

The choice between drops depends on the diagnosis - for a bacterial infection it is better to choose Anauran, other inflammatory processes will be well eliminated by Otipax.

Otipax

Otipax is available in the form of drops; active ingredients – phenazone, lidocaine hydrochloride.

Ear drops are widely used in ENT practice; they have anti-inflammatory and local anesthetic effects. As noted in the instructions, the drug is used for local symptomatic treatment and pain relief in adults and children (including infants) with: otitis externa, as a complication after a respiratory disease, otitis media in the acute phase at the time of inflammation, barotraumatic otitis, tubootitis (eustachitis).

The product should be instilled into the external auditory canal, 3-4 drops 2-3 times during the day. The course of treatment is 8-10 days. Before using the bottle, you must burn your palms.

Side effects

: possible allergies, burning in the ear, hyperemia of the ear canal and irritation.

Contraindications: very high sensitivity to the active substance and additional components of the drug, repeated holes in the eardrum .

Comparison with Sofradex, Otofa, Tsipromed, Normax

All drugs are antibacterial. But if Otofa, Tsipromed and Normax are just antibiotics, then Sofradex and Anauran have a combined composition, which makes them more effective.

Tsipromed

Thus, Indian Tsipromed is effective against almost all known bacteria, but does not have a pronounced anti-inflammatory and analgesic effect. The advantage of the drops is the price - on average it is 130 rubles per 10 ml.

Photo of packaging tsipromed eye drops ciprofloxacin 0.3%

Otofa

Otofa is a French medicine (about 190 rubles per 10 ml), which has a big advantage: its use is allowed for damaged eardrums.

Normax

Normax is also an Indian, but rather expensive drug - 175 rubles for 5 ml. The action is comparable to Tsipromed, because contains an antibiotic from the same group of fluoroquinolones, but is characterized by a large number of adverse reactions. Another disadvantage is that the volume of the bottle is not always enough for a full course of therapy, and this affects the total cost of treatment.

When choosing between Anauran and these medications, preference is often given to French drops, because they have a complex effect and are safer for the patient, although they are more expensive.

Sofradex

Sofradex is another French combination drug containing a steroid, antibiotic and antiseptic, which allows it to have a complex effect on the body. But at the same time, it has a large number of contraindications, including pregnancy, viral and fungal infections, and can also cause serious side effects if the recommended dosage or duration of treatment is exceeded. The price of the drops is also high - about 400 rubles for 5 ml, so when choosing between Sofradex and Anauran, experts often prescribe the latter.

Comparative characteristics of analogues

There is a wide range of ear drops, therefore, in order not to harm your health, all drugs and drops for ear treatment are prescribed only by an otolaryngologist. Illiterate use of drugs for the treatment of inflammatory diseases of the ears can lead to serious consequences: hearing loss and perforation of the eardrum.

We recommend the best ear drops for otitis media.

Otofa or otipax - which is better?

Unlike Otipax, Otofa contains an antibiotic - rifampicin, which means that the drug is intended for the treatment of infectious and inflammatory diseases of the ears, which are not amenable to treatment with other antibacterial agents. Otofa is indicated for bacterial processes when the outer and middle ear are affected. If you are intolerant to lidocaine, Otofa will be a safe remedy. In case of otitis media with perforation, otophasis is not prohibited.

Otipax has a pronounced analgesic and moderate anti-inflammatory effect. Approved for use from the infant period. There is no systemic effect. Pregnancy and lactation - allowed under the supervision of a doctor. The downside of otipax is that it does not prevent the spread of bacteria. Often, due to lidocaine, the drug is not prescribed to patients prone to allergies to this drug.

Otipax eliminates pain and relieves inflammation, but only in the initial stages of the disease.

Otofa is undoubtedly stronger than otipax, because has a wide antibacterial spectrum of influence. Can be used both in the acute period and in the chronic course of the disease. Otipax is a drug for acute cases.

Otofa is not recommended during breastfeeding or pregnancy. It does not relieve pain; the anti-inflammatory effect is inferior to otipax. Otofa is also produced in France, only the manufacturer is different - Bouchard Laboratory. Otofa drops (10 ml) cost 200 rubles.

In fact, these products cannot be called analogues, because otofa is an antibiotic, otipax is an anti-inflammatory drug with an analgesic effect, but they have the same goal - to relieve inflammation in the auricle.

Otinum or otipax?

Lidocaine and phenazone are the main components of otipax; they are responsible for eliminating pain and inflammatory reactions. If the pathological process is at the beginning of development, otipax will be in place. When inflammation is caused by bacteria, a disinfectant is needed, and this is where Otinum comes in.

Glycerol, salicylate, ethyl alcohol are the active components of otinum. This complex perfectly relieves inflammation and disinfects the affected area. Otinum is indicated for otitis media of various localizations, tympanitis, and is also recommended for dissolving wax plugs before removing them.

Contraindications – individual intolerance, pregnancy, childhood, violation of the integrity of the eardrum.

Before deciding on the choice - Otinum or Otipax, you need to make a diagnosis. Only then will it be clear which drops will be more effective. If there is an infection, we choose Otinum; if there is minor inflammation (acute stage), Otipax is better suited.

Also, do not forget about the composition and individual sensitivity of each drug by the patient. Patients often have an allergic reaction to lidocaine, so before prescribing drugs such as Otipax, the doctor should ask the patient if he is allergic to this drug. Sometimes it is recommended to conduct an allergy test for lidocaine.

Meda Pharma GmbH and Co.KG, Poland – manufacturer of otinum. The price for 10 ml drops is 230 rubles, which is 70 rubles cheaper than Otipax.

The composition of otinum can cause negative symptoms in the form of redness, burning or itching. Therefore, which remedy is best is an individual matter, and only a doctor should take ear drops.

Sofradex or Otipax?

Many of our readers have heard about Sofradex; this product is often taken into travel first aid kits. The drug is prescribed not only for the treatment of ears; ophthalmological problems are also its purpose.

Sofradex is more powerful than Otipax. It contains: dexamethasone, gramicidin, framecitin sulfate. This complex acts quickly, because has the following properties: antibacterial, antipruritic, antiallergic, anti-inflammatory.

Sofradex does not contain an analgesic, so it has no analgesic effect. Therefore, if the patient complains of severe pain, an additional local anesthetic drug is prescribed.

When used topically, negligible systemic absorption is observed.

Sofradex is recommended for bacterial eye diseases and otitis media. Contraindications – individual intolerance to the composition, tuberculosis, glaucoma, trachoma, fungal and viral infections, thinning of the sclera, herpes, infancy, pregnancy, others.

Sofradex is produced by Aventis Pharma (India). Price per bottle (5ml) – 280 rubles.

Article on the topic - instructions for using Sofradex.

Anauran or Otipax?

The first drug has a powerful antibacterial and analgesic effect. Polymexin and neomycin are active antibiotics. Lidocaine acts as an analgesic. Therefore, anauran is a remedy that is necessary during an active bacterial process.

If you compare Anauran and Otipax, it is easy to notice obvious differences in composition. Only lidocaine remains common, and its concentration in anauran is higher.

When choosing one of these remedies, you should focus on the severity of inflammation and its cause. An otolaryngologist will help you determine exactly what you need.

Producer of anauran – Zambon, Italy. Drops (25 ml) cost 280 rubles.
