Ambrobene and Lazolvan - what is the difference
These drugs belong to the category of expectorants and are analogues of the active substance. This determines the commonality of their pharmacological properties and features of use.
Compound
The active component of Lazolvan and Ambrobene is ambroxol. The composition of excipients varies depending on the form of release, but in this they are almost the same.
Mechanism of action
The mechanism of the therapeutic effect of ambroxol consists of several points:
- dilution of viscous mucus discharged from the bronchi;
- increased mobility of the cilia of the mucous membranes of the respiratory tract, which “expel” mucus out;
- increased formation of surfactant - a substance that protects lung tissue and protects the lungs from collapse.
Indications
Both drugs are used in the presence of difficult to separate sputum in the case of diseases such as:
- pneumonia (inflammation of lung tissue);
- bronchitis (inflammation of the bronchi);
- bronchial asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (diseases manifested by spasm of the bronchial tree);
- bronchiectasis (dilation of areas of the bronchi in which sputum accumulates).
Contraindications
Are common:
- first trimester of pregnancy;
- individual intolerance to the drug.
Additional contraindication for Lazolvan:
- breastfeeding period.
Side effects
Are common:
- allergic manifestations;
- dry mouth;
- perversion of taste;
- bowel dysfunction;
- stomach ache;
- nausea.
Additional side effects for Ambrobene:
- urinary disorders;
- increased salivation;
- general weakness.

Lazolvan for inhalation
The solution can be used on any equipment intended for inhalation. The exception is steam inhalers. Lazolvan is not used in its pure form; it is mixed with saline in a 1:1 ratio. The procedure is carried out with normal breathing, since deep breaths can provoke a cough. Before inhalation begins, the solution is heated to human body temperature. Persons suffering from asthma are recommended to take bronchodilators beforehand.
Inhalations are prescribed daily: up to 6 years of age, 1-2 procedures with 2 ml of solution, after 6 years and adults - 1-2 procedures with 2-3 ml of solution.
Replacement of Lazolvan
At the pharmacy you can always find drugs with similar effects that are cheaper. Lazolvan has structural analogues, the active ingredient of which is ambroxol hydrochloride. These drugs also thin out sticky mucus and help the body remove it. These include:
- Ambrobene;
- Ambroxol;
- Ambrohexal;
- Mistabron;
- Neobronchol;
- Bronchorus;
- Mucomist;
- Acetylcysteine;
- Flavamed
- Erespal.
These medications are produced for inhalation, they are much cheaper and can perfectly replace Lazolvan. For example, Bronchorus costs 60 rubles, and Ambrobene 115 rubles, in contrast to the price of Lazolvan 370 rubles. There are also other dosage forms - lozenges, tablets, syrups.
What is the difference between Lazolvan and the listed drugs? They differ only in price, which is determined by many factors. Each manufacturer sets its own price for the drug; the increase in cost also depends on the transportation of products to other regions.
Drugs from foreign manufacturers, which are very expensive, are not always more effective than Russian ones. The price of drugs also depends on the cost of additional components - excipients.
Important! Lazolvan or Ambrobene for inhalation have the same effect in treatment, but are evaluated differently by manufacturers.
Ambrobene
This is a high-quality analogue of Lazolvan, which can be used for inhalation for bronchopulmonary diseases. Both drugs are produced in Germany, but their prices are different: Ambrobene is half the price of Lazolvan. Lazolvan contains two flavors and many different additives, which raises the price bar for the drug. Patients claim that drugs may have different effects on the body - one is better tolerated than the other. However, this completely depends on the composition of the additives, and not on the effect of the main medicinal formula of the drugs: both contain ambroxol hydrochloride.
Which drug should I choose for my child? Any medication must be prescribed by a pediatrician or pulmonologist. Ambrobene and Lazolvan are completely interchangeable, so the choice can be based only on price characteristics. If the child’s body does not accept the additional substances of any drug, it can be replaced with another.
Berodual
Let's look at how Berodual differs from Ambrobene and Lazolvan. Berodual is not a structural analogue of these drugs, since it contains a different active substance - ipratropium bromide and fenoterol hydrobromide. Brodual has a completely different effect on bronchopulmonary tissue, so they cannot be compared, nor can they be independently prescribed for treatment.
Important! Berodual has a dilating effect on the lumens of the bronchi; it is often prescribed for bronchospasms or before the administration of other drugs using an inhaler.
ACC
Structural analogues of drugs always have an identical dosage formula and differ in additives. However, sometimes doctors may replace the medicine with another drug with a different active formula. These include ACC, a mucolytic agent for children and adults. This is also a good drug that clears the bronchi of thick mucus. Which one is better? It is difficult to answer this question, since the body perceives the effect of medications individually. You should trust the experience of the pulmonologist and listen to his opinion.
Main characteristics of Lazolvan and Ambrobene
Lazolvan is a drug that is prescribed for the treatment of wet coughs and for better release of sputum from the respiratory tract.
The active main substance is ambroxol hydrochloride. Ambrobene is a remedy that is used to treat wet coughs. Just like the drug Lazolvan, it provides a mucolytic effect and the main substance is similar in composition.
Both drugs are available in various forms , including tablets, syrups for children and solutions for inhalation. They are also suitable for use by small children.
Inhalations with these drugs make the cough much softer, i.e. immediately after the procedure, sputum begins to come out easily during coughing, the effect is quite quick . Children usually receive 2 inhalations per day, while adults preferably receive 3 procedures of 15 minutes each.
The dosage of both products is the same - 2 ml of solution, they must be diluted with saline solution. It is not advisable to perform inhalations before bedtime, since a cough may begin after the procedure, so it is recommended to do them two hours before bedtime. According to the treatment time, the products are used for no more than 5 days.
Contraindications and side effects of drugs
The side effects of Lazolvan and Ambrobene are also similar in the form of disorders of the digestive tract (nausea, heartburn, vomiting, diarrhea, dyspepsia) and allergies in various forms, such as urticaria, skin rash, anaphylactic reactions.
Contraindications for both drugs are increased individual sensitivity to the substances contained in each of them and the first three months of gestation , since Ambroxol penetrates the placental barrier and is likely to cause harm to the fetus.
But in numerous experiments on animals, no negative reactions were found in either mothers or their cubs.
You should also carefully take and use the drug in the remaining two trimesters of pregnancy and during breastfeeding. The main substance of the drug passes into breast milk, but it is safe for the baby.
with renal failure and liver failure should carefully study the instructions . It is not recommended to use Ambrobene and Lazolvan together with other cough remedies, as it makes it difficult for sputum to come out.
