The drug "Rengalin", the instructions for use of which will be studied in this article, is a common anti-inflammatory drug that has an antibronchoconstrictor effect. In what cases is it prescribed? How should it be taken? Are there any contraindications? You will find answers to these and many other questions related to this topic in the article.
Release form, composition and price
This medication can be found in pharmacies in the form of a solution intended for oral administration, as well as lozenges. The composition is the same, it includes antibodies to morphine, histamine, and bradykinin.
The product is relatively budget-friendly - the price of the solution (100 ml) and tablets (20 pieces) is 290 and 220 rubles, respectively. The exact cost depends on the chosen pharmacy and the region where the medicine was purchased.
Composition and release form
The medication has two medicinal forms. The product is available in suspension and tablet form. Rengalin tablets are intended to be dissolved orally; the solution is also taken orally. The pills appear to be of a regular oval shape, the edges are solid, there are chamfers and marks. On both sides there is a marking from the manufacturer: the name of the drug and the logo. The emulsion is a colorless transparent liquid with a slight pleasant aroma.
The dosage forms contain the same main active elements:
- affinity purified antibodies to bradykinin.
- affinity purified antibodies to morphine;
- affinity purified antibodies to allergens.
Rengalin for cough contains additional components. The tablet preparation contains:
- MCC.
- Magnesium salt of stearic acid.
- Synthetic sweetener.
- Carboxylic tribasic acid.
- Sodium saccharinate.
- Glucopyranosyl mannitol.
- Polysorb.
The auxiliary components in the oral solution are:
- Carboxylic tribasic acid.
- Maltitol syrup.
- A derivative of sorbic acid.
- Purified water.
- Food grade glycerin.
The content of active substances in the composition of the medicinal product should not exceed 120 mg per 1 pill/100 ml of solution or syrup.
Impact on the body
You can learn about it if you read the instructions for using Rengalin. In the course of experimental studies, it was possible to find out that the components included in the drug modify the activity of the ligand-receptor interaction of endogenous regulators with the corresponding receptors. All substances reinforce each other, which ultimately leads to a powerful antitussive effect.
In addition, the drug "Rengalin" has analgesic, antispasmodic, antiallergic, anti-edematous and anti-inflammatory effects.
The medicine is complex, and therefore as a result of its use the following occurs:
- The flow of pain impulses coming from the periphery is inhibited.
- The center of pain sensitivity is inhibited in the thalamus.
- The excitability of the cough center located in the medulla oblongata decreases.
- The transmission of pain impulses to the cerebral cortex is blocked.
- The release of plasma and tissue algogens is reduced.
It is important to know that the drug "Rengalin" does not cause addiction, does not depress breathing, and does not have a hypnotic or narcotic effect.
This drug helps relieve the symptoms of bronchitis, laryngitis and pharyngitis, and also significantly reduces bronchospasm. At the same time, local and systemic signs of allergic reactions are stopped, since the active substances affect the synthesis and subsequent release of bradykinin and histamine from mast cells.
Composition and pharmacological action
Dosage forms:
- lozenges: flat-cylindrical, with solid edges, chamfered, on one flat side with a line and the inscription MATERIA MEDICA, on the other - RENGALIN; from almost white to white (10 pieces each in strip packs, 1, 2 or 5 packs in a cardboard pack);
- solution for oral administration: colorless or almost colorless, transparent (10 ml in glass bottles, 1 bottle in a cardboard box).
Active ingredients in 1 tablet/100 ml solution:
- affinity purified antibodies to bradykinin – 6/120 mg;
- affinity purified antibodies to histamine – 6/120 mg;
- affinity purified antibodies to morphine – 6/120 mg.
Auxiliary components:
- 1 tablet: microcrystalline cellulose – 27.5 mg; Magnesium stearate – 5.5 mg; sodium cyclamate – 2.75 mg; anhydrous citric acid – 5.225 mg; sodium saccharin – 0.275 mg; isomalt – 506 mg; colloidal silicon dioxide –2.75 mg;
- 100 ml of solution: anhydrous citric acid – 20 mg; maltitol – 6000 mg; potassium sorbate – 165 mg; glycerol – 3000 mg; purified water – up to 100 ml.
Pharmacodynamics
It has been experimentally proven that the components of Rengalin modify the activity of the ligand-receptor interaction of endogenous regulators with the corresponding receptors: antibodies to histamine - with H1-histamine receptors; to morphine – with opiate receptors; to bradykinin - with B1 bradykinin receptors. The interaction of the active components of Rengalin in complex therapy enhances the antitussive effect.
In addition to the main drug, the drug has anti-edematous, anti-inflammatory, anti-allergic, analgesic (antibodies to morphine) and antispasmodic (antibodies to histamine and bradykinin) effects.
Thanks to the modification of histamine-dependent activation of H1 receptors and bradykinin-dependent activation of B1 receptors, the drug selectively reduces the excitability of the cough center of the medulla oblongata and promotes inhibition of the central parts of the cough reflex. By inhibiting pain sensitivity centers in the thalamus, it blocks the transmission of pain impulses to the cerebral cortex. Due to a decrease in the release of plasma and tissue algogens, it inhibits the flow of pain impulses from the periphery.
Rengalin relieves local and systemic symptoms of allergic reactions, alleviates acute pharyngitis, bronchitis and laryngitis, and reduces bronchospasm.
Pharmacokinetics
Studying the pharmacokinetics of the drug is not possible.
During the period of use of Rengalin for cough, the development of reactions of increased individual sensitivity may be observed.
To date, no cases of incompatibility with other drugs/substances have been reported.
If you strictly follow the doctor's instructions, the therapy is well tolerated in most cases. However, sometimes Rengalin provokes side effects. The following complications occur most often:
- nausea;
- skin itching;
- hives;
- rashes.
It is important to follow the dosage. If the patient exceeds the maximum permissible single dose, unpleasant symptoms may occur. Rengalin cough syrup for children in case of overdose can provoke the following clinical picture:
- vomit;
- feeling of heaviness in the abdomen;
- belching;
- heartburn;
- loose stool.
An antitussive, bronchodilator is used for various forms of respiratory diseases:
- Bronchitis, laryngitis, tracheitis.
- Pulmonary emphysema.
- Tonsillitis, pharyngitis.
- Bronchial asthma.
- Inflammation of the lungs.
- Lesions of the airways of an allergic type.
- ARVI, acute respiratory infections, influenza.
It is also prescribed for allergic cough manifestations and chronic obstructive disease. It acts at all stages of the disease and is effective in treating complications of pulmonary diseases.
The action of the drug is based on the use of affinity-purified antibodies to morphine, histamine, and bradykinin. Their combined effect on the diseased bronchi and lungs reduces the activity of dry and wet cough. Thanks to antibodies, ligand-receptor interaction is stimulated, the excitability of the cough center is reduced, and the hyperproduction of mucus is reduced.
By inhibiting the sensitivity of the thalamus to pain, the main active ingredients of the drug prevent the entry of pain impulses into the cerebral cortex. Additionally, rengalin solution relieves inflammation, swelling, and spasms. Excipients contained in the medicinal product (citric acid, glycerol, potassium sorbate, maltitol) improve its absorption by the body, make it soft when consumed, and give it a sweet taste.
Pharmacokinetics
Even after studying the instructions for using Rengalin, you will be able to learn little about this topic. Because the sensitivity of modern analytical methods does not make it possible to assess the content of such small doses of antibodies in human tissues, fluids and organs.
Chromatography-mass spectrometry, high-performance liquid or gas-liquid chromatography - these methods, unfortunately, are powerless. Therefore, it is impossible to study the pharmacokinetics of the drug Rengalin.

Rengalin in the form of syrup can only be taken from the age of three.
And despite the dosages prescribed in the instructions for use, in each specific case the course and treatment regimen must be adjusted by the attending physician .
On average, children are given this remedy up to four times a day, one teaspoon each time .
If necessary, the attending physician can increase the frequency of doses (for example, in the first three days of exacerbation of the pathology), but not a single dosage.
According to the instructions for use, it is not recommended to drink the product with water or dilute it. The time of taking the medicine should be selected so that it is the same interval between two meals.
Use of tablets
In this form, the drug "Rengalin" is taken differently. One dose - 1 tablet, which must be kept in the mouth until it completely dissolves.
The frequency is the same as in the case of the solution - three times a day. In severe cases, the doctor may allow you to take two tablets or increase the frequency to 4-6 times a day.

The duration of treatment is determined by the doctor depending on the patient’s condition and his reaction to the medicine taken.
Important nuances
So, what Rengalin tablets help with is clear. Now it is worth discussing some important points that need to be taken into account before starting treatment. They can be identified in the following list:
- You should know that the safety of using this drug in pregnant and lactating women has not been studied. Therefore, they need to start treatment only after consulting a doctor - he will approve or reject the idea of therapy, weighing the risks against the benefits.
- Children under three years of age should not be given either tablets or solution.
- Con does not affect attentiveness and ability. Therefore, a person undergoing treatment can drive a car and engage in activities that require increased concentration.
- Rengalin taken in any form can cause an overdose if it is abused. In this case, dyspepsia develops. The reason is the fillers present in the composition.
- There have been no cases of incompatibility of Rengalin with other medications.
You must also remember the importance of proper storage of the drug. It must be put away in a place protected from light, children, animals and temperatures above +25 °C. This drug has a shelf life of 3 years; after this time it cannot be used.
Reviews
People who have taken Rengalin in the dosage prescribed by their doctor have a good opinion about this drug. Most often, they note the following advantages of the popular medicine:
- The first effect occurs 15-20 minutes after the person has swallowed the tablet or taken the solution. At this time, he is still bothered by a cough, but then it decreases.
- The remedy saves even the most protracted cough. Some patients suffered from it for several weeks! But after starting treatment with Rengalin, the cough softened by the end of the second day.
- Other unpleasant manifestations of the disease disappear. These are wheezing, whistling, general malaise - a feeling that it’s even becoming easier to breathe. Even suffocating and debilitating attacks pass after a couple of days.
- “Rengalin”, when undergoing a course of treatment, also relieves chronic cough. And if you start taking it on time, without triggering the condition, then it will not allow the disease to develop into something more.
- The product also helps children. Even kids of kindergarten age! Their drug cures in 3-4 days.
And what is important when it comes to lozenges is their taste. Patients don't complain. They say that taking the pills does not cause discomfort, because they themselves are pleasant, with a slight sourness, and do not give any aftertaste.
Directions for use and dosage
The drug should be used according to the recommendations of the attending physician, but without violating the instructions from the manufacturer.
Taking the drug "Rengalin" according to the manufacturer's instructions:
- Solid dosage form. Dissolve 1 or 2 tablets three times a day, regardless of diet (in between meals). If you have an hourly or constant cough during the first three days, the dosage frequency is increased from 4 to 6 times a day.
- Liquid form. 5-10 ml of Rengalin (1 or 2 tsp) is given to the child three times a day, regardless of meal time. In case of severe cough, the pediatrician increases the dosage frequency to 4-6 times during the first 3 days of treatment. It is recommended to hold the liquid in your mouth for at least 30 seconds and then swallow.
The attending physician selects the frequency of administration and dosage individually, taking into account the patient’s age and the severity of cough on a 4-point BCSS scale.
Analogs
Having figured out what cough Rengalin helps with and how it should be taken, you should pay attention to alternative versions of the drug. If suddenly his drug is not available in the pharmacy, you will have to find an analogue together with your doctor. The choice can be made in favor of the following means:
- "Cough tablets." That's what the medicine is called. It is based on soda and thermopsis grass. The product effectively reduces the viscosity of sputum, relieves inflammation and has an expectorant effect.
- "Ascoril". Available in the form of tablets and syrup. It contains salbutamol, which helps stimulate mucus production, eliminates bronchospasm and increases lung capacity.
- "Ambroxol". Prescribed for people suffering from respiratory diseases, which are accompanied by cough and poorly discharged sputum. Available in the form of a solution for inhalation and oral administration, syrup and tablets.
- Licorice syrup. Another herbal preparation that destroys microbes and eliminates swelling with inflammation. Available in 100 ml bottles.
- "ACC." It can be purchased in effervescent tablet and syrup form. The product has a pronounced mucolytic effect. It is prescribed even for chronic and acute diseases of the respiratory system.
- "Dr. MOM." The medicine perfectly dilutes mucus, ensures its rapid removal, and also expands the bronchi and eliminates inflammation. And most importantly, the composition of this combined product is formed by plant components.
- "Codelac broncho" It can be purchased in elixir or tablet form. Reliably helps with both dry and wet coughs. But it is prohibited during pregnancy, lactation, and is not yet prescribed to children under 12 years of age.
- "Herbion". There are two options. The first is plantain syrup. It has anti-inflammatory and mucolytic effects. The second is primrose syrup. It eliminates swelling, inflammation and thins mucus.
What Rengalin tablets help with is what analogues of this drug also help with. But you need to understand that they have a different composition. This means that the contraindications also differ. That is why the doctor selects an alternative. There are many analogues, but which one is suitable for the patient depends on his individual characteristics.
