Sumamed is a strong cough antibiotic that is suitable for children and adults. This drug is famous for its effectiveness, which is why it is so popular among doctors. Sumamed is produced in the form of a suspension and tablets. The first option is very convenient for treating young children.

Since this is an antibacterial drug, it has a number of contraindications and side effects. Therefore, only a doctor should prescribe this remedy.

Cough antibiotic Sumamed

Brief description of the antibiotic

This antibiotic belongs to the group of macrolides and has a broad spectrum of action against microbes. In high concentrations it can have a bactericidal effect.

It is worth noting that taking antibiotics not only affects the intestinal microflora, but also reduces immunity. For this reason, experts recommend taking a probiotic from the very beginning of antibiotic therapy. This will avoid negative consequences and protect the gastrointestinal tract.

It should also be understood that the help of antibiotics is required only in cases where there is a risk of developing pneumonia or other serious complications.

Side effects

Most often, when using the drug, negative reactions such as nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, flatulence, and diarrhea occur. Less commonly observed:

Drowsiness

  • intrahepatic cholestasis caused by impaired bile outflow;
  • elevated levels of liver transaminases;
  • semi-liquid tarry stools;
  • dizziness, drowsiness, fatigue, headache;
  • thrush;
  • decrease in the concentration of bicarbonates and lymphocytes in the blood;
  • increased sensitivity of the skin and mucous membranes to ultraviolet radiation;
  • nephritis – inflammatory disease of the kidneys;
  • visual impairment;
  • rashes, itching, Quincke's edema, urticaria.

Azithromycin is a broad-spectrum prescription antibiotic that relieves cough by suppressing the causative agent of the disease - harmful bacteria that cause inflammation in the respiratory tract. The dosage and duration of taking the drug are determined by a specialist. If the cough intensifies, this indicates an incorrect selection of the antibiotic, its dose, or a violation of the medication regimen.

For what diseases is Sumamed prescribed?

Cough antibiotic Sumamed

  • Otitis media.
  • Interstitial pneumonia.

A common cold cough cannot be treated with antibiotics!

If a sore throat is suspected, the patient is required to undergo a smear to identify the microflora and determine its sensitivity to a particular antibiotic. Based on the results obtained, the doctor selects the appropriate drug.

Antibiotic Sumamed – review

My 2-year-old son had to become familiar with antibiotics when he fell ill with bronchitis last winter. That time we cured bronchitis, but of course we had to restore the intestinal microflora with Linex. This fall, due to a lingering cough, I had to think about antibiotics again, the doctor advised Sumamed. A dosage of 125 mg was prescribed for the child, 3 tablets per package.

Any drug, especially antibiotics, should not be prescribed without permission! They are prescribed by a doctor!

In particular, for coughs, antibiotics can only be prescribed after a blood test.

leukocytes are elevated in this analysis , it means that a bacterial infection has entered the body and the help of an antibiotic is required.

In our case, leukocytes were not elevated, the cough was mild, so we were initially treated with Ambrobene solutions and heating... And only when the cough did not go away after a month, antibiotics were prescribed.

Surprisingly, the drug turned out to be inexpensive - only 319 rubles. Antibiotics are usually expensive in my experience.

The tablets had to be crushed into powder and diluted with water, because the small child could not yet swallow the tablet whole.

The package contains 6 blue tablets, 5 pieces were prescribed for the course.

READ THE INSTRUCTIONS

The drug belongs to the group of broad-spectrum antibiotics, that is, it is very powerful; it is prescribed for various bacterial infections. The active ingredient in it is Azithromycin.

It describes what kind of reptiles it acts against.

and main indications for use.

And contraindications.

The dosage is also indicated. Before prescribing the drug, our pediatrician weighed the child and only then prescribed the dosage.

During this time of taking antibiotics, I decided not to buy Linex, but to simply try feeding the child yogurt with Vivo Simbilact sourdough.

Even before the illness, we started consuming it and I was pleasantly surprised by its effect. If we take antibiotics, then I definitely give Linex Forte.

And although, judging by the reviews, Sumamed is a mild antibiotic and there are almost no cases of dysbacteriosis, but this is not about our intestines...

Since the child’s intestines are weak, the microflora is not properly formed, he constantly has problems with it - either constipation or diarrhea. We drank a bunch of probiotics and prebiotics - Linex, Hilak forte, Normobakt, Bifidumbacterin.

Some things help, some don’t, while taking it the situation improves, but after finishing it it may become the same again. As the doctor explained, the bacteria do not have time to settle in the intestines and prescribed us a two-month course of probiotics. Even this did not improve the situation.

But daily consumption of yogurt instantly corrected the situation! Since bacteria must be consumed constantly, it is better to do this in the form of a tasty treat than an expensive medicine.

**********************************

So, we started drinking Sumamed, the result appeared on the third day - the cough went away, we finished the course anyway. A slight gastrointestinal upset did happen a couple of times, but it went away the next day.

The drug deserves its 5 stars, and, alas, all antibiotics have the effect of causing dysbacteriosis, some more, some less.

So I recommend it, BUT ONLY AS PRESCRIBED BY A DOCTOR!

For infectious diseases of the respiratory tract:

adults – 500 mg per 1 dose per day for 3 days;

for children – 10 mg of the drug per kilogram of the child’s body weight, taken once a day for 5 days.

Sumamed is consumed one hour before a meal or 2 hours after a meal. Children from 6 months of age are recommended to prepare the suspension. The powder for its preparation is yellowish-white in color with a strawberry aroma. To make a suspension, you need to fill the bottle with the powdery contents with water (12 ml). To do this, it is better to use boiled or distilled water. The bottle is then shaken and the appropriate dose is given to the child. The shelf life of the prepared suspension is 5 days.

Pharmacological properties of the drug

Azithromycin is a broad-spectrum drug.
Active against gram-positive representatives of pathogenic flora, such as various varieties of staphylococcus and streptococcus, and gram-negative - hemolytic bacillus, legionella, moraxella, gonococcus. Suppresses the vital activity of chlamydia, spirochetes, and protozoan microorganisms. Azithromycin has a bacteriostatic effect. It binds to the organelles of the pathogenic cell, inhibits its reproduction and protein synthesis.

In significant doses, bactericidal activity is manifested. The treatment period depends on the dosage of the active substance and ranges from 3 to 6 days.

The maximum concentration in tissues is observed 3 hours after administration. The active component easily penetrates the respiratory tract, skin, soft tissues, and organs of the urogenital tract. Bioavailability is 37%.

The presence of a food bolus interferes with the absorption of the active component of the drug. Therefore, the macrolide should be taken before meals and preferably at the same time.

It is excreted within 5 days, most of the dose remains unchanged. A stable amount in plasma is maintained for 7 days. In the liver it becomes inactive.

Excreted in feces and urine. The rate of drug elimination is affected by the patient’s age and gender. Thus, in older men, the main indicators remain unchanged.

How many days to take azithromycin for bronchitis

In women of the same age, the maximum concentration in plasma increases by 30–50%, in children under 5 years of age it decreases.

Azithromycin is a drug with a wide spectrum of action; it belongs to the group of macrolides. The drug is effective in the treatment of infectious diseases of an inflammatory nature. The medication is able to accumulate in the area of inflammation in concentrated doses, it has a strong bactericidal effect.

Due to the high concentration of active components in the area of inflammation (in the bronchi), the production of foreign protein by pathogenic microorganisms stops, and the process of their reproduction is also reduced. After taking the product, the active components travel through the blood vessels to the lungs and enter the tissues. The medication penetrates the pulmonary parenchyma and bronchi, so pathogenic microorganisms cannot increase inflammation.

When localized in the area of inflammation, medicinal substances inhibit inflammation, therefore Azithromycin is used for bronchitis for adults and children. The drug takes effect within 2 hours and is eliminated from the body over a long period.

The drug is eliminated 2 days after administration and only half. It is not advisable to take the drug for more than 5 days in a row; this course of therapy is considered optimal in treating the disease. According to reviews, Azithromycin should be used for bronchitis in adults and children after consultation with a doctor. This is due to the fact that the product is considered an antibiotic.

According to reviews, Azithromycin for bronchitis is sold in every pharmacy. The product is available in several forms:

  1. Suspensions. They are available in dosages of 100 ml and 200 ml. Children's bodies are the most sensitive and undeveloped, so a smaller dosage is needed. They are prescribed the drug in this form.
  2. Powder. Suspensions are created from it. From 5 ml of powder you get 200 ml. suspension, which can be administered by injection or orally.
  3. Capsules. They have a gelatin base. Capsules are available in 250, 500 and 600 mg.

The form of the drug is selected by the doctor based on the individual characteristics of the patient. Azithromycin is effective for bronchitis in adults and children; you just need to follow the treatment recommendations provided by a specialist.
