Medicines on the shelves
Inflammation of the larynx is a fairly common disease that occurs in childhood and can be complicated by stenosis or laryngospasm. When selecting medications for laryngitis for children, the doctor, first of all, takes into account the cause of the inflammatory process, based on which the treatment regimen is drawn up.
Inflammation of the larynx in a child can be caused by various reasons:
- throat injuries (impacts, damage to the mucous membrane by a fish bone, small foreign objects, etc.);
- viral infection (ARVI, influenza);
- bacterial infection (staphylococci, streptococci);
- allergic reaction (inhalation of dust, animal hair, strong-smelling substances, paints and varnishes, mold).
Depending on the cause that provoked the inflammatory process, the specialist will prescribe an effective medicine for laryngitis for children.
Groups of drugs for the treatment of laryngitis
Medicine for a child - how not to make a mistake?
What is prescribed for laryngitis in children?
The table shows the groups of drugs that are most often used to treat inflammation of the larynx:
Group of drugs | What medications belong to this group? | What effect do we get? |
Mucolytics, bronchodilators and expectorants | Ambrobene, Lazolvan, Prospan, Ambroxol, Ascoril, Erespal, Eufillin | Helps soften the irritated mucous membrane of the larynx, reduces dry barking cough, stimulates the process of liquefaction of sputum and its expectoration |
Antitussives | Sinecode, Grippocitron, Codeine, Libexin | Inhibits the cough center, relieves an attack of unproductive, obsessive, dry cough |
Antihistamines | Suprastin, Zodak, Loratadine, Claritin | Relieves tissue swelling, prevents the development of laryngospasm, reduces attacks of dry cough |
Antibacterial, antibiotics | Miramistin solution, Sumamed, Amoxicillin, Amoxiclav | Have a detrimental effect on bacterial flora, eliminate the cause of inflammation of the larynx |

Hormonal | Dexamethasone, Prednisolone, Hydrocortisone | Relieves swelling of the laryngeal tissues, eliminates the inflammatory process, prevents the development and progression of stenosis or laryngospasm |
Important! You should not take medications for laryngitis for children without consulting a doctor, as this makes it difficult to determine the correct diagnosis and contributes to the development of severe complications, especially in children from one to 3 years of age.
Pharmacy syrups
Pharmacies provide a wide selection of syrups that can be used to treat this ailment. They are based on different active ingredients.
The active ingredient is dextromethorphan. This group of syrups includes Glycodin, Tussin - they suppress cough by acting on the cough center in the brain. Take one teaspoon of syrup three times a day. The active substance is codeine. The drugs Tussamag and Cofex thin mucus and have an expectorant effect. Take 2-3 teaspoons three times a day. It is addictive and should be taken with caution. The active ingredient is fenspiride hydrochloride. Erespal, Inspiron, Siresp are antiphlogistic and bronchodilators. They have proven themselves to be effective against laryngitis in the younger generation over 2 years old. Depending on body weight, drink a teaspoon 3 times a day (infant weighing up to 10 kilograms), one or two tablespoons before meals (children over 12 years old and adults). The active ingredients are glaucine hydrobromide and ephedrine hydrochloride. Bronholitin, Bronchoton, Bronchitusen Vramed are antitussive and mucolytic agents. Children from three years old take 15 milliliters three times a day, adults – 10 ml three times a day. The active ingredient is butamirate. Sinekod, Codelac, Omnitus - block the cough center in the medulla oblongata, have a mucolytic and mild anti-inflammatory effect. Children from three years old should take a teaspoon 3 times a day, adults and children aged 12 years and older - 15 milliliters before each meal. The active substance is ivy extract. Gederin, Pectolvan Plus - a pronounced mucolytic and antiphlogistic effect, as well as a tonic and antiseptic. Children from one to six years old should take 5 milliliters three times a day, older children 2-3 teaspoons before meals.
All of the above drugs can be used in children after consulting a doctor.
Antipyretic syrup.
For laryngitis, antipyretic and antiphlogistic syrups are often prescribed. These are nonspecific anti-inflammatory drugs:
ibuprofen; paracetamol; panadol.
The dosage for children and adults is different, depending on age and weight. If you have a sick baby, you should not treat laryngitis at home, you should definitely consult a doctor. With complications of this disease, such as false croup, only a doctor in a hospital setting will help.
Conservative treatment of laryngitis in children

What to take for laryngitis in children? Treatment begins with a visit to the pediatrician; usually the doctor prescribes complex therapy, which is aimed at eliminating the inflammatory process, relieving cough and normalizing respiratory function.
How to give Erespal to children with laryngitis
Laryngitis is manifested by inflammatory processes in the mucous membrane of the larynx. Most often it develops against the background of acute respiratory viral infections, influenza, measles, and scarlet fever. In order to treat laryngitis in a child, Erespal may be prescribed.
"Erespal" in the treatment of laryngitis in children
"Erespal" belongs to the group of anti-inflammatory, antibronchoconstrictor drugs. The drug is available in the form of tablets and syrup. To treat laryngitis, children are prescribed Erespal syrup. The active substance of the drug is fenspiride hydrochloride. It prevents the development of bronchospasm, has anti-inflammatory, myotropic, antispasmodic effects.
Children over 2 years of age are given the drug at the rate of 4 mg per 1 kg of body weight (per day). Children weighing up to 10 kg are prescribed 2-4 tsp per day. (10-20 ml). Children weighing more than 10 kg are given 2-4 tbsp per day. l. (30-60 ml). The daily dose is divided into 3 doses. Shake the syrup before use. You need to drink it before meals with water. It is allowed to add syrup to a bottle with food. The duration of treatment should be determined by the doctor.
Erespal is contraindicated in case of hypersensitivity to its components. It should not be given to children under 2 years of age. The drug is used with caution in cases of fructose intolerance, glucose-galactose malabsorption, sucrase/isomaltase deficiency, and diabetes mellitus.
The drug may cause the following side effects: moderate tachycardia, vomiting, nausea, gastrointestinal disorders, abdominal pain, drowsiness, dizziness, asthenia, increased fatigue, rash, erythema, urticaria, angioedema, itching. If these symptoms appear, you should stop taking the drug and consult a doctor.
Symptoms of an overdose of Erespal are: agitation, drowsiness, vomiting, nausea, sinus tachycardia. In these cases, gastric lavage is prescribed, ECG monitoring is carried out, and vital functions of the body are supported.
Treatment of laryngitis in children
For the treatment of laryngitis, mucolytic drugs, drugs with oxeladin, paxeladin, tusuprex, and dextromethorphan can also be prescribed. Medicines that relieve the cough reflex and antibiotics are taken only as prescribed by a doctor. For laryngitis, the following are indicated: maintaining a voice mode (talking in a whisper or complete silence), increasing the volume of fluid consumed, taking warm milk with honey, steam inhalations with the addition of eucalyptus, iodine, anise or menthol oils.
It is necessary to avoid cold, hot, spicy, salty foods. The air in the child's room should be fresh, moist and warm; compresses on the neck and chest, mustard plasters, gargling with infusions of chamomile, sage, and hot foot baths are recommended.

Cough preparations
In most cases, inflammation of the larynx in children is combined with tracheitis (inflammation of the trachea), as a result of which the patient experiences a paroxysmal, dry, obsessive cough. Lollipops for laryngitis for children, which contain essential oils and extracts of medicinal herbs, help relieve pain when swallowing and reduce sore throat, due to which the cough will soften a little.
In the first days, the child is prescribed antitussive drugs to relieve a painful cough. The drug Sinekod for laryngitis in children eliminates obsessive laryngeal cough and reduces irritation of the mucous membranes of the upper respiratory tract.
A few days after the start of therapy with Sinecod (3 days), this drug is replaced with mucolytics and expectorants.
Ambrobene
Ambrobene for laryngitis in children is prescribed when the inflammatory process of the larynx is combined with inflammation of the trachea or bronchi. The syrup contains plant extracts that help liquefy viscous sputum and stimulate the work of the ciliated epithelium lining the respiratory tract, as a result of which accumulated mucus is easily removed from the larynx when coughing.
Important! You cannot take Sinekod and Ambrobene at the same time, as this will lead to blockage of the airways with accumulated mucus and the development of laryngeal stenosis. A cough medicine for laryngitis in children should be selected by a doctor based on the type of cough and the characteristics of its course.
Preparations for inhalation
Typically, the following drugs are used for inhalation through a nebulizer:
- hormonal agents - Flixotide, Pulmicort, Dexamethasone, Prednisolone, Hydrocortisone,
- antiseptics – Hexoral, Dioxidin, Miramistin,
- herbal remedies – Chlorophyllipt, Rotokan,
- sputum thinners - Lazolvan, ACC, Ambrobene, Borjomi, baking soda, saline solution.
Let's take a closer look at some of them:
- Dexamethasone . Relieves swelling and inflammation, has an anti-allergic effect. According to the instructions, in order to make inhalation, 1 ampoule of Dexamethasone is diluted with saline solution in a ratio of 1:6. To carry out the procedure, take 4 ml of the prepared product. Prescribed when there is a threat of laryngospasm.
- Hydrocortisone . Used alone or in combination with lidocaine. Has a pronounced antiallergic effect.
- Prednisolone . The mechanism of action is the same as that of other hormonal drugs. Used to relieve allergic reactions, reduce swelling, and inflammatory processes. For inhalations for children, only a doctor should determine the dose of prednisolone.
- Ambroxol (Lazolvan) . It thins mucus, thereby promoting its removal, and softens dry cough. For inhalations, dilute in a 1:1 ratio with saline, usually 2-3 procedures per day.
- Saline solution . Moisturizes the mucous membranes of the upper respiratory tract, promotes the removal of sputum, and softens cough.
- Dioxidine . Antiseptic drug. For 1 inhalation, use up to 5 ml of undiluted product.
- Antiviral drugs . In some situations, the doctor may prescribe interferon and similar drugs. As a rule, at the initial stage of the disease, this speeds up the recovery process and alleviates the course of laryngotracheitis.
- Epinephrine (adrenaline). Prescribed in case of threat of laryngospasm (for example, when a child began to choke at night, and the night before he had a “barking” cough). According to the instructions, 1 ampoule of adrenaline is diluted in 5 ml of saline solution. Side effects include increased heart rate and possible increased blood pressure.
Complex cough preparations
When a child is prone to allergic reactions and attacks of laryngospasm, then to treat cough against the background of inflammation of the larynx, doctors prescribe complex drugs that have several effects:
- expand the airways;
- relax the muscles of the respiratory organs, thereby relieving spasms of the larynx and bronchi;
- dilute viscous sputum;
- stimulate expectoration of mucus.
The group of bronchodilators with mucolytic and expectorant effects includes Erespal, Ascoril and Eufillin.
Erespal
Erespal syrup
Erespal for laryngitis in children is prescribed to relieve the inflammatory process, reduce tissue swelling and prevent the development of laryngeal stenosis. The drug is available in the form of syrup and tablets; the instructions that come with Erespal describe in detail the composition, age-specific dosages and contraindications.
Attention! Erespal in syrup form contains sucrose, which should be taken into account when prescribing the drug to children with congenital lactose intolerance or malabsorption syndrome.
Ascoril
Ascoril for laryngitis in children is prescribed to reduce spasm of the respiratory tract, tissue swelling and stimulate the production and dilution of sputum.
The therapeutic effect of the drug is due to its active ingredients:
- salbutamol – relaxes the muscles of the respiratory tract, prevents the development of laryngospasm;
- guaifenesin – stimulates the process of sputum formation and its dilution;
- Bromhexine - improves the process of sputum discharge and cleansing the respiratory tract of pathological mucus.
Ascoril syrup
Ascoril is available in the form of tablets and syrup and is intended for the treatment of children over 6 years of age.
Eufillin
Eufillin for laryngitis in children is prescribed only in extreme cases, when the inflammatory process is complicated by severe laryngospasm and impaired respiratory function. The drug is addictive, so you should not use it for a long period of time.
Solution for injections Eufillin
Important! The dose of Eufillin is determined by the doctor individually, depending on body weight and age. Exceeding the dose of the drug on your own can lead to a sharp drop in blood pressure and the development of vascular collapse (acute vascular insufficiency).
No-spa for laryngitis in children is prescribed to patients of primary preschool age or to those children who have individual intolerance to Eufillin. The drug is injected deep into the muscle.
Usually the No-shpa injection is combined with Suprastin or Diphenhydramine. Suprastin for laryngitis in children can be used even in babies under one year old, the dose is calculated by the doctor individually.
Characteristics of the drug
Ambrobene belongs to the group of expectorant mucolytic drugs. That is, it helps to liquefy mucus in the bronchi and remove it.
The drug is available in several dosage forms, due to which it can be used for different diseases and at different ages:
- syrup is suitable for children from birth, pregnant women and nursing mothers;
- tablets can be used from 6 years of age as prescribed by a specialist;
- long-acting capsules can be taken for dry cough by adults and children over 12 years of age;
- injection solution is used most often in inpatient treatment settings;
- solution for inhalation and oral administration is used for procedures with a nebulizer.
In all forms, ambroxol hydrochloride acts as the active ingredient. This is a chemical compound that gently acts on the surface of the bronchi, separating mucus and phlegm from them. Also, when absorbed, the drug provokes the urge to cough, due to which phlegm is expelled. After taking a dose of the drug, the cough intensifies and this is normal, that is, Ambrobene begins to act and remove mucus.
Laryngitis can be treated with Ambrobene only as prescribed by a doctor. In addition, the medicine is indicated for all types of dry cough.
Inhalations and other procedures for laryngitis
Inhalation with a nebulizer
As an auxiliary therapy for inflammation of the larynx, the child is given inhalations through a nebulizer. This device allows the drug to enter directly into the distant parts of the respiratory tract and act instantly. Inhalation through a nebulizer is especially effective when the inflammatory process occurs with signs of laryngeal edema or stenosis.
An effective method of treating an inflamed larynx are compresses - cold or warm. Warming compresses for laryngitis in children can be applied already during the recovery period, since the effect of heat on the throat can provoke tissue swelling and the development of laryngospasm. Cold compresses are effective for throat injuries to prevent the development of tissue swelling.
Mustard plasters for laryngitis in children are a distracting method of therapy, but they are not recommended for children under 4-5 years of age.
Mustard plasters
Important! The skin of young children is extremely sensitive, so mustard plasters should be used with caution and kept on the skin for no longer than 15 minutes, as severe irritation may occur.
What are the benefits of inhalation for laryngitis?
If an adult or child begins to have inflammation of the larynx, then inhalations give the following actions:
- swelling of the larynx gradually decreases;
- due to inhalation of medicinal vapors, the mucous membrane of the pharynx and larynx is moistened;
- thinning mucus;
- the use of hormones or bronchodilators in solutions (as indicated) prevents the development of broncho- and laryngospasms;
- antibacterial and mucolytic effect;
- damaged tissues are restored much faster;
- reduction of symptoms of the disease (hoarseness, pain, irritation).
Inhalation treatment in the acute phase of the disease gives a pronounced therapeutic effect. If the symptoms of inflammation are caused by overstrain of the vocal cords, then several procedures are sufficient to cure.
Inhalations for laryngitis with a nebulizer are prescribed for the following forms of inflammation:
- atrophic form of laryngitis;
- acute;
- hypertrophic;
- chronic form of catarrhal nature.
Steam inhalation is recommended to be prescribed only for viral etiology of the disease. But if the disease is caused by a bacterial infection, then steam inhalations are allowed only as an auxiliary therapy after the severity of inflammation has subsided.
Inhalations for laryngitis at home are performed in three ways:
- using a nebulizer (another type of inhaler is suitable as an alternative);
- using a saucepan into which the medicinal solution is poured;
- using a teapot and a paper nozzle.
The choice of procedure depends on the specifics of the disease. But it is easier and more convenient to carry out inhalation using a special device. Inhalations with a nebulizer for laryngitis provide a quick therapeutic effect, since the medicine easily reaches the inflamed areas of the pharynx and larynx.
How to do inhalations with a nebulizer
If you have a nebulizer, then the procedures can be carried out at home. The action of this special device is based on ultrasonic spraying, as a result of which medications enter the trachea and respiratory tract.
Since inhalations for laryngitis with a nebulizer are mainly prescribed for children, a children's mask is included with the device. Children can be inhaled even while sleeping. But before using local treatment, be sure to consult your doctor. The otolaryngologist will determine the nature of laryngitis and prescribe a drug for this procedure.
How to use a nebulizer:
- Inhalation is carried out no earlier than 1 hour after eating.
- You should not smoke before and after the procedure.
- The procedure is performed in a sitting position, the patient breathes as usual (not deeply) and does not speak. If dizziness or severe coughing occurs, it is recommended to pause for twenty to thirty seconds.
- If the solution contained hormonal drugs, you should rinse your mouth well after the procedure.
- Drugs used for inhalation must be warmed to ambient temperature. The prepared solution of the drug can be stored in the refrigerator (no more than 24 hours).
- After the procedure, all parts of the device must be washed with boiled water and disinfected with an alcohol solution.
Drugs used for inhalation for laryngitis
For inhalation of laryngitis with a nebulizer, the following drugs are used:
- Medicines that thin sputum: Ambrobene , Lazolvan, Mukolvan , etc. The result is achieved by thinning sputum and softening the cough. To achieve sputum discharge, in addition to local therapy with Ambroxol , it is recommended to drink plenty of fluids (at least 3 liters during the day).
- Alkaline solutions: Narzan or Essentuki , as well as saline solution. For laryngitis, the use of these remedies is very useful. Alkaline solutions soften and moisturize the throat and upper respiratory tract, thereby relieving the symptoms of the disease.
- Non-systemic glucocorticoids: Pulmicort, Hydrocortisone , Dexamethasone . Nebulizer inhalations of such drugs are prescribed to children with allergic rhinitis or false croup. But a doctor should prescribe hormonal therapy after determining the etiology of the disease.
- Antibiotics: Fluimucil . Inhalations using an antibiotic are prescribed for bacterial laryngitis. The medicine acts directly on the inflamed areas, so the positive effect is achieved much faster than when taking systemic antibiotics in tablet form.
- Inhalations with Eufillin or Adrenaline are prescribed only for broncho- and laryngospasms. Without consulting a doctor, the use of drugs, especially in childhood, is strictly prohibited.
- Antiseptics: Miramistin , Furacilin , Rotokan . The drugs have an anti-inflammatory and antiseptic effect and quickly relieve the symptoms of the disease.
For inhalation with a nebulizer, it is best to use ready-made drugs produced in special nebulas. The medicine is diluted only with saline solution (the use of boiled water to dilute the medicine is strictly prohibited). The composition of solutions, as well as the duration and frequency of procedures, is prescribed only by a doctor!
Contraindications to inhalation for laryngitis
Inhalation through a nebulizer for laryngitis is contraindicated in the following cases:
- high temperature (above 380);
- severe pathologies of the cardiovascular system, as well as severe arrhythmia;
- frequent nosebleeds;
- allergy to components used in inhalations;
- children under one year old;
- exacerbation of asthma, manifested by breathing problems.
Steam inhalations have significantly more contraindications. For example, steam treatment is strictly prohibited in the presence of a purulent process. Steam treatment of inflammation caused by a bacterial infection is also contraindicated. In addition, elderly people and children under 7 years of age are prohibited from breathing above the steam.
Benefits of using a nebulizer
Carrying out inhalations using a nebulizer has a number of undeniable advantages, among which I would like to highlight the following:
- the medicinal substance goes directly to the areas of inflammation;
- allowed to be used even by young children (after one year);
- non-invasive therapy;
- convenience and ease of use;
- the concentration of the drug in the respiratory tract is two times higher than with other methods of administration;
- medications that enter the body through inhalation do not enter the bloodstream and do not affect the functioning of the kidneys and liver.
To summarize, I would like to note that every family should have a nebulizer in their home medicine cabinet. It is almost impossible to meet a child who has not suffered from laryngitis at least once in his life. And you can quickly and effectively cope with acute inflammation of the larynx using inhalations.
Also, procedures using this device are important for teachers and singers who have laryngitis as an occupational disease.
Inhalations for inflammation of the respiratory tract are an effective way to quickly alleviate the patient’s condition by delivering the medicine directly to the “affected zone.” This procedure can be performed at any age and in any state of health. How and with what to do inhalations for laryngitis in children? What drugs to use and what is strictly prohibited?
Laryngitis is a disease in which the tissues of the larynx become inflamed. A characteristic symptom for the pathological process in this location is the effect on the vocal cords. The patient either loses his voice completely, or obvious hoarseness is heard. The symptoms are explained by the proximity of the vocal cords, which are involved in the inflammatory process.
Note! Inflammation of the larynx is especially dangerous in childhood. Due to the anatomy of the child’s throat, a false croup develops and blocks breathing.
Since the larynx directly passes into the trachea, laryngotracheitis (inflammation of the larynx + inflammation of the trachea) is a common complication of laryngitis. If the infection goes deeper, the patient faces bronchitis. When pathogens spread to the nasopharynx, tonsillitis, rhinitis, and sinusitis are possible.
How does inhalation work?
When inhaling medicinal vapors in a patient with laryngitis:
- swelling of the larynx is relieved
- moisturizes the throat, trachea, bronchi
- inflammation decreases
- sputum thins out
Note! The above-mentioned therapeutic effects of inhalations are not limited to the throat, but extend to all respiratory tracts. Thereby preventing the spread of infection.
There are several types of inhalations, but the principle of action of each of them is the same: the drug is sublimated or sprayed, after which it is inhaled by the patient. Inhalation at home can be done:
- a special device - a nebulizer
- steam (the patient breathes hot steam) using a container with heated liquid
The therapeutic effect of inhalation for laryngotracheitis depends on the chosen drug and the order of procedures.
Steam inhalation or nebulizer?
What inhalations can be done for laryngitis? Classic inhalations, when the medicine is sublimated through vaporization, are not recommended for use with purulent inflammation of the larynx. With hot steam, not only the medicine, but also the infection is carried through the respiratory tract. Hot steam in children can provoke swelling of the larynx and an attack of false croup.
To avoid complications, in case of acute laryngitis, it is recommended to use a nebulizer for inhalation. The inhaler uses a cold method to crush the solution into a fine suspension, which is easily inhaled and does not transmit the pathogen.
Is it possible to inhale infusions or decoctions of medicinal plants with a nebulizer? No, because a suspension of a heterogeneous solution will damage the device. But it is much worse to use oil solutions for hardware procedures.
Note! Oil inhalations with a nebulizer for laryngitis are prohibited! The finely dispersed oil suspension clogs the lungs, leading to inflammation and swelling. This condition is called lipoid (fatty) pneumonia, it is extremely difficult to treat and can lead to the death of the patient.
Preparations for inhalation
How effective is inhalation for laryngitis? It all depends on the nature of the disease. Treatment of laryngitis should be comprehensive. For inhalation for laryngitis use:
- Antibacterial drugs prepared with hydrocortisone solution
- Medicines that thin and remove mucus
- Breath softening and mucous moisturizing solutions
How to charge a nebulizer for laryngitis? The doctor will make the exact prescription. There are a lot of drugs that are used by inhalation. They differ in their action, in their compatibility with other medications taken, and have specific contraindications and side effects. Below are drugs that can be used for inhalation in a nebulizer for laryngitis for various indications.
Lazolvan
Inhalations with lazolvan for laryngitis, laryngotracheitis and other inflammatory diseases of the respiratory tract have a double effect:
- thins mucus and promotes its removal
- relieve swelling
- enhance the effect of antibiotics, regardless of the form of their use (tablets, injections)
This remedy is safe for treating children. Effective in complex therapy of adult patients.
Medicines that make breathing easier
Inhalations with aminophylline are not used for laryngitis, even if breathing is difficult. Firstly, the effectiveness of inhaled administration of this drug to relieve bronchospasm is highly questionable. Secondly, difficulty breathing with laryngotracheitis (or laryngitis) is due to swelling of the larynx, which is not affected by aminophylline.
Dexamethasone for laryngitis is indicated to relieve throat spasms and ease breathing. The drug is hormonal, belongs to glucocorticosteroids, acts on the entire body. It can only be used as prescribed by a doctor. Use 1 ml per procedure. Dilute to 4 ml with 9% saline solution. It is prohibited to use without a doctor's prescription.
Note! Self-administration of dexamethasone is dangerous due to anaphylactic shock and Quincke's edema. When used in children, the benefits and risks of introducing a hormonal drug into the growing body are assessed.
Berodual is a drug for inhalation for complicated laryngotracheitis. It effectively relieves bronchospasm, making it easier for the child to breathe quickly. The therapeutic effect of Berodual occurs within 5-10 minutes. Dosage as prescribed by the doctor.
If there is a threat of swelling of the throat, when false croup threatens, inhalations with epinephrine (adrenaline) are used (under supervision and as prescribed by a doctor!). It is acceptable to use epinephrine through a nebulizer in emergency situations when the child begins to choke and the ambulance is still on the way.
Note! It should be understood that adrenaline stimulates not only the respiratory center, but also cardiac activity. It is unacceptable to use the drug on your own.
Softening and moisturizing solutions: soda, saline solution, mineral water
These are three solutions that can be recommended for inhalation for children and adults with laryngitis with virtually no restrictions. Softening the vocal cords will help get rid of a hoarse voice. Moisturizing the mucous membranes of the respiratory tract will allow the body to effectively fight pathogens.
Inhalations with saline solution (NaCl 9%) during laryngitis are indicated for adult patients and children. They soften and moisturize the airways well throughout their entire length. Effectively relieve acute symptoms. There are no restrictions on the number of procedures. The medicine is hypoallergenic and well tolerated by patients of any age.
Soda inhalations at home are available as first aid for inflammation of the larynx in adults. Like saline solution, they soften your breath. Due to its alkaline effect, soda inhalations with a nebulizer help soften and remove mucus. Recommended for use in cases of hard breathing, coughing, and hoarseness. For children, soda or any other solution can be used only as prescribed by a doctor.
To soften breathing and better discharge of sputum, you can do inhalations with mineral water. They use Narzan, Borjomi. Before use, gases should be removed from mineral water by stirring or settling. For one procedure, 3-4 ml of mineral water is poured into the nebulizer. It should first be warmed to body temperature.
Antibacterial drugs
Procedures with dioxidine are prescribed to suppress infection. When inhaled, the solution directly enters the affected area, increasing the effectiveness of therapy in comparison with the drug in tablets. Dioxidin is inhaled without dilution, using 1 ampoule of 0.5% solution per procedure. Inhalations for children with acute laryngitis are prescribed by a doctor according to an individual scheme.
Flimucil is an effective antibiotic for inhalation for laryngitis through a nebulizer. Its use is sufficient to suppress the inflammatory process without additional use of antibacterial tablets.
Rules for inhalation
- For procedures, you should use only pharmaceutical preparations that are intended for such treatment.
- The nebulizer should be refilled according to its instructions.
- Inhale through the mouth, exhale through the nose
- The procedure time is 10-15 minutes, unless the doctor prescribes a different regimen
- Treatment through a nebulizer should be 1.5 hours after meals and no earlier than 0.5 hours after physical exercise. loads
- You can eat and drink 40 minutes after treatment
- The medicine can be diluted with saline or Borjomi unless otherwise indicated.
It is prohibited to perform the following procedures:
- At high temperature
- Children under one year old
- Patients with a history of cardiac pathologies or allergic reactions to medications
- Patients with respiratory failure, acute asthma

Laryngitis is a serious infectious disease. It is provoked by pathogenic viruses that infect the larynx. Often this disease takes on a chronic form, especially in those who smoke for a long time, work in hazardous industries or in constant cold conditions. With the correct treatment regimen, the disease can be quickly cured in 10 days, but for this you need to consult a doctor. The most effective method of therapy is inhalation for laryngitis with a nebulizer; properly selected drugs contribute to a speedy recovery.

Treatment of complicated laryngitis in children: list of drugs
When inflammation of the larynx in a child occurs in parallel with the involvement of the trachea, bronchi, lungs in the pathological process, or a bacterial infection is associated with the disease, doctors recommend a course of antibiotic therapy. Sumamed for laryngitis in children is an antibacterial agent from the macrolide group and is highly effective against gram-positive and gram-negative flora.
For children under one year of age and children under 3 years of age, Sumamed is prescribed in the form of a suspension; a special syringe is attached to the bottle of medicine for ease of dosing.
Sumamed powder
Important! Never start giving your child an antibiotic without a doctor’s recommendation, since Sumamed is prescribed only in severe cases, when other treatment methods are not effective or complications have begun.
Treatment of laryngitis with syrups
Complex treatment of laryngitis includes taking syrups. They are divided into 2 categories:
- promoting the removal of mucus and
- antitussives.
They can be natural or chemically based. Laryngitis syrup for children is selected by the attending physician. Self-medication is highly discouraged. Separate cough remedies for laryngitis in children do not combine. It is important to choose drugs that will enhance each other’s effects, rather than suppress them.
At the initial stage of development of the pathology, cough suppressants are prescribed. Chemical or plant-based syrups that promote the removal of sputum are best used during the recovery stage. Cough syrups for laryngitis can be used for children aged 3 years and older, but there are remedies for the youngest.
Important! The drugs differ depending on the type and nature of the symptom. Only a specialist can choose a treatment and figure out which syrup will be most effective after conducting a full examination.
Dry cough can be treated with syrups based on codeine, butamirate, and dexotromethorphan. At the same time, the doctor may prescribe antipyretic syrups, which include Paracetamol, Ibuprofen, Nurofen and Panadol. Travisil, Gerbion, and Doctor Theis syrups are suitable for children under 2 years of age. After 2-3 years, the following remedies are indicated: Sinekod, Pertussin, Gerbion, Doctor Mom.
Famous herbal cough syrups:
Alteika is a product based on marshmallow root and contains nipagin and nipazole. Promotes the release of sputum, regeneration of damaged tissues, relieving swelling and inflammation. Approved for use in children over 6 months of age for the treatment of wet and dry cough.
Linkas - contains extracts of licorice, violet, hyssopp, jujube, galanga and other plants. Promotes the transition of cough to a productive form, enhances expectoration, reduces swelling and inflammation. Suitable for adults and children from six months of age.
Hormone therapy for laryngitis in children
When inflammation of the larynx is accompanied by difficulty breathing, tissue swelling and stenosis, patients are prescribed hormonal drugs for quick relief:
- Dexamethasone;
- Hydrocortisone;
- Prednisolone;

Adrenaline solution is prescribed in the form of inhalation through a nebulizer - 0.5 ml of the drug is pre-diluted with 3 ml of isotonic sodium chloride solution.
This medicine for children against laryngitis is used only from 1 year of age; to relieve stenosis and eliminate tissue swelling, 1 inhalation is enough; further use of the solution should be consulted with a doctor.
Cough with laryngitis
Nobody wants to get sick. And when the underlying disease is accompanied by very unpleasant symptoms, there is an unshakable desire to get rid of them once and for all. Cough with laryngitis is one of these. It's painful and annoying. It feels like your throat is being torn from the inside. No amount of sucking candy or potion helps at first. Despite trying every possible way to make him productive, nothing works. Cough with laryngitis continues to be annoying and causes many problems. But you can easily deal with them if you know the correct methods of struggle. And then, after just a few days, you will be able to boast of excellent health and the absence of annoying symptoms.
Dry cough with laryngitis
At first, it seems that this dry cough with laryngitis will accompany you forever. And even several days of seemingly effective treatment did not produce any effective results. There is a hoarse voice on the face, poor health, a constant cough in fits and starts that causes a lot of discomfort to the throat. And all because the mucous membrane is very swollen and all processes in it are difficult. Even normal salivation causes a lot of discomfort, and a sore throat makes it difficult to speak normally.
Dry cough with laryngitis must be properly treated. The first thing you need to start with is plenty of warm drinks with softening additives. Tea with raspberries or honey, as one of the most effective cough treatments, has not yet been canceled. Only the number of tea parties should be maximum. This will not only help develop a productive cough, but will also facilitate the removal of sputum. This is followed by drug treatment that can alleviate and cure a dry cough due to laryngitis.
Barking cough with laryngitis
If every disease is accompanied by some symptom, then we can rightly say that a barking cough with laryngitis is a sure sign of the disease. Along with it, there is a complete absence of sputum discharge and noisy breathing with grinding sounds can be heard in the chest. As in the case of dry cough, it is very important to achieve productivity and relieve increasing swelling of the mucous membrane. Only after this will relief begin.
Cough with laryngitis in children
Children's diseases always have characteristic features and they occur in children, not like in adults. So, cough with laryngitis in children occurs only at night or in the morning. At the same time, it manifests itself sharply and actively. The baby cannot speak in “his own” voice, since he has already developed active swelling of the larynx. At the same time, even if you put your ear to the chest, you can hear strong noisy sounds in its area.
For some doctors, childhood laryngitis is associated with false croup syndrome, which is much more dangerous. Therefore, you should contact a pediatrician in time, who can correctly diagnose the disease.
Before the arrival of specialists, it is necessary to stabilize the nervous tension of the baby, who is already in an excited and painful state. Cough with laryngitis in children causes very unpleasant sensations, which must be relieved before the arrival of specialists. Therefore, it is recommended to drink plenty of warm drinks and vitamin C. Herbal infusions should be limited, but if similar diuretics and diaphoretic drugs were previously prescribed, then they can be given in small quantities.
When such symptoms occur in infants, you should immediately call an ambulance, since only a correct diagnosis from a specialist can dispel doubts, and even more so prescribe appropriate treatment.
Treatment of cough with laryngitis
In a sense, the treatment of cough with laryngitis can be called traditional. Of course, it has its own characteristics, but many methods and techniques have long been explored and tested.
The use of mucoletics that promote expectoration should be avoided. But don’t forget about rinsing, they relieve swelling and help relieve agitation.
Among the medications that need to be used to treat cough with laryngitis, it is worth noting codeine-based medications. These include “Kodilak” and “Terpinkod”. But, despite the good antitussive properties that these drugs have, if it is possible to treat a cough with laryngitis using other means, then it is worth using them. And all because the opioid compounds of codeine cause addiction to the nervous system and larger and larger doses of the drug are required.
Dextromethorphan-based drugs are very effective. They quickly act on the immediate center of the cough and suppress it. There are a large number of drugs based on it, available over the counter. Among them, it is worth highlighting “Glycodin” and “Alex Plus”.
If necessary, antihistamines can be prescribed, but despite their effectiveness they cause severe drowsiness.
In any case, medications should be taken only as prescribed by a specialist. He must take into account the individual characteristics of the course of the disease and make appropriate instructions.
Cough syrup for laryngitis
Pharmaceutical companies have produced no cough syrup for laryngitis that helps in the best way. Which one to choose depends on the prescription and the active ingredient. The most common ones include:
“Glycodin”, the active substance dextromethorphan, due to the increase in the sensitivity threshold arising in the cough center, some channels are blocked. But at the same time, the respiratory center is not blocked. It has a mild effect, which contributes to the suppression of the cough center and a beneficial effect on the affected mucosa.
“Gederin” is made on the basis of ivy extract, which suggests its mild effect, which has a positive effect on relieving irritation and swelling of the larynx. In addition, it thins sputum, thereby promoting expectoration and the removal of pathogenic microbes, and also has an antispasmodic effect.
Cough with laryngitis is not such a big problem. And if you approach its solution correctly and in a timely manner, then exacerbation of symptoms can be avoided and you can get rid of an obsessive barking cough within a couple of days after its appearance.
